Disney Cruise shuns NY again

I think New York like everything else is probably charging them outrageous port fees and taxes so they said nope!

Same thing happened here in Ireland. The Magic used to go to Dublin City Port on The British Isles Cruise. After the shut down and restart it switched to Cobh, Cork, for both The Magic and now The Dream. Dublin port fees are really high. The other cruise lines go to Dun Laoghaire which is a suburb of Dublin about 30 minutes by commuter train from Dublin city centre. The port at Dun Laoghaire is a tender port and cheaper than the Main Dublin City Port.

One of our favorite DCL cruises was 7 day Halloween cruise Quebec City--NYC in late September 2018. With so many East Coast Disney people, they're "missing the boat" on cruises out of NYC.

Not true. I remember trying to hop on a Disney cruise since I live here and they always booked up in advance. I think New York like everything else is probably charging them outrageous port fees and taxes so they said nope!
I’ve sailed three times out of NYC because of the deep discounts and I live on the west coast. If they could make money out of NYC they would sail out of there.

New York also has a bunch of full-season ship commits from other lines. DCL would have to fit around the strong contracts they already have at port. DCL never did full seasons, just shoulders. Other lines are there all summer.

It would be natural for the port to assign priority to the lines with more sailings, just like little airlines have to share single gates at airports.

I don't think MCT is full, though. I've done two cruises from NYC (one in April and one in October) and there wasn't another ship in port either time when we departed. There was one other ship in port upon return from the April cruise.

We were on that cruise as well and absolutely loved it!
Sailing past the Statue of Liberty at 5am was something I would love to get to do one more time!

Going to miss a run to Katz Deli before and after the cruise.

I sat there for 5 minutes trying to find the right word lol
I like that word choice. Skips is too perky. Omits, avoids, ignores… Since most of us probably aren’t in a religion that actually shuns, there is no deep emotional response for most readers - but it does convey a feeling of “what about us?” 🤔

Seems reaching Diz Ports always involve flights where we have long layovers, plane changes, never a non stop direct flite, awkward access to the terminal.

Keep in mind DIsney has major commitments to the Bahamas. Not just their investment at Castaway but also Lighthouse Point, but their agreement with the Bahamas requires a certain number of stops in Nassau each year. So when a ship goes into Dry Dock, DCL is going to protect their Bahamas cruises.

Yes, I got that too. I explicitly checked NYC, Bermuda and Canada....So maybe hope is on the horizon?
Thank you both for sharing about the survey you received. I find that hopeful for the return of NYC cruises in 2027. 🤞🏻

Always good to see that they seem to be interested in feedback from people who already have connections to the brand too, even while many longtime cruisers seem to be disappointed in the recent direction of ships and LP.

We have loved sailing out of NYC the past few years. So now what was going to be a Disney NYC sailing for us in 2025 has now been changed to be a second trip planned to visit Universal Epic Universe when it opens. Way to go Disney pushing more of us to Universal.

This is a completely nonsensical argument. You're going to FL anyway, where the majority of DCL cruises depart from. A valid or comparable argument would be that you've elected to use a cruise line that does sail out of NYC. DCL hasn't "pushed" you nor anyone to Universal, it was your choice to go.

Yeah we're on Norwegian out of NYC this fall for our 10th anniversary, I was really hoping for the Dream as we honeymooned on the dream....and NY is easier for me to get to.

We woud be so on a NYC sailing as we really want to go back to NYC for a few days and woud love a land and sea vacation in one. NYC to Bermuda.. we had started planning this a few years ago but changed to other things.. regret it now... We will most likely do NYC in the spring only. Had DCL been therre we would have booked around that sailing to include since we are already there.

That makes sense and it's also too bad. I would gladly never set foot on Nassau again in my life but it's the only way to experience new DCL ships. But after our Wish sailing I'm done with boring Bahamas itineraries. If DCL is having a hard time filling cruises, they might want to consider that the lack of interesting destinations could really be a factor. Who wants to float pointlessly to Nassau and back over and over again? If I worked for DCL I would practically beg to at least be on the Wonder or Dream.

I'm guessing OP is just done with Disney's lack of exciting new destinations in general. Maybe I'm projecting here, but I started going to Universal for the first time after WDW switched to Genie+, which I loathe with the fire of a thousand suns. Epic Universe looks amazing, especially the new monsters theme land that they just released more details about yesterday. When it opens I highly doubt we'll ever visit WDW again. DCL is pretty much the same story. It's the same ports year after year. They've been coasting for a long time, and the new ships could have meant new, exciting itineraries but it's instead it's like, do I want to be in the Haunted Mansion bar or the Star Wars bar when I arrive in Castaway Cay for the umpteenth time? I could see why OP might not choose another cruise line that sails out of NYC if what they were after was a touch of the theme park experience, but at sea. That's why we started sailing DCL to begin with, not because we were excited about cruising in general. We replaced a parks trip with a cruise trip.
