Disney Cruise Prices

Back in the day, there was no extra charge for al a carte items - it was all included except alcohol.
Correct. They will deduct 45.00 dollars from whatever you order off the ala carte menu. We used to leave just owing the tip and alcohol. My husband ordered an expensive steak 62.00 dollars off the ala carte menu and they deducted 45.00 dollars from that price. I ordered the prix fix. I believe if you order Ala carte you have to pay for appetizer and dessert too. Our bill was significantly higher than in the past. Service was still great.

You are basically getting a 45 dollar discount off whatever you order.
Only platinums get the free prix fixe meal, or $45 discount toward a la carte.

Earlier this year, I had steak for dinner and chocolate soufflé for dessert a la carte. It cost less than $45. Including my tip to the server. Including the standard bread, cheese, palate cleanser, etc. It was a wonderful meal and seemed a reasonable price to me.

Fair enough. You only mentioned other reviews in your prior post, which is why I asked. But there have also been recent threads on here about what great cruises people have had, with great food and service. Here's one example from today:

DCL isn't for everyone. If you don't find it worth it, you should cruise another line and enjoy yourself there. But DCL is worth it for many people.

I just don't see the point of feeling the need to aggressively run it down once you've decided to move on. Why not post on the forum of the new cruise line you've chosen?

I keep seeing people say the "magic is being taken away!" and...just...how?

As a grown *** adult who knows full well that it's just a cast member in a suit I still got excited to hug Chewie.

My husband and I were both brought to tears when riding Rise of the Resistance.

I absolutely despise the new Genie+ system, but that didn't take away any of the magic when we were at WDW last December. Now we're planning a trip to DLR in October, and I'm probably more excited than our 9 year old because of the chance to meet the Avengers.

If you think the magic is gone, maybe it's a you thing and not a Disney thing.
I guess it could be a difference of opinion. When we started going to Disney I would get excited, be up all all night before leaving but now with Disney charging for every little thing they are taken what most people call the Magic away, it’s that feeling you get when walk inside Magic Kingdom it’s almost Magical.
Our 4 night Cruise last Oct on the Wish with 2 nights at WDW at a Value Resort was just over 8k, yes it included airfare but still.

Again, the point of the thread is how DCL has gotten so expensive compared to other cruiselines. I am a gold DCL member, have been on plenty of cruises and enjoyed them. But the price vs. the experience is changing. Not here to debate which cruiselines are better. As is with everything with Disney, it is ALL changing and not for the better.

I realize that and the person I was quoting is platinum. We always tip about 20 dollars per person.

I think most people appreciate reviews of other cruise lines because like you said Disney is very expensive and not everyone can afford Disney on every cruise. Or maybe they've been priced out because of a multitude of circumstances.

There are some people that get bent out of shape if you post anything negative about DCL. I've been on 28 DCL so obviously I've been happy with the product.

I have cruised on other lines Carnival and Royal and I enjoyed those. I like hearing about other cruise lines because DCL doesn't always have the right itinerary at the right price...or sometimes you just want to take a vacation that doesn't take months or years to save up for.

The question was regarding how experiences have deteriorated. Palo used to be $15 and you ordered whatever you wanted and, in our experience, the servers added more. Now, for $45, you get to pick between a few items in each course and anything extra is an uncharge. Its a different standard of service. This is a cruise - and food is typically included across the board. You can order two main courses in the dining rotation and have three desserts...; Just using this as one example. This is our first Disney Cruise in seven years. I'll let you know what I see.

I'm not disagreeing with you. The experience is the same you are just paying a lot more for it. Our server did bring us an extra dessert. They still have some discretion to do that, but I wouldn't ask for it or you might get charged more. Our server was still wonderful and it's not their fault that things have changed.

Who would actually want to do that? That isn't healthy or normal, and shouldn't be the expectation for DCL to provide.
On my last cruise I did order two desserts one night as I couldn’t choose.

Somehow the server had also found out it was my birthday and brought me birthday cake too 🙈 So it was a three dessert night.

I don’t know how anyone could eat that on the regular.
