We are going on our first 7 day Disney cruise but we would like to add on some time at Port Orleans before the cruise. Can we still use Disney transportation to go all 3 ways (airport to resort, resort to ship, ship to airport)? I wasn't sure if there are busing going to Port Canaveral on Saturdays from the Walt Disney Property.

Thanks!

Yes you can. Port Orleans is a DCL pick-up location, so you are good. After the cruise, they go to all WDW resorts. You have to add this transportation option to your cruise price... or you can wait until the cruise gets closer to add this on. It is $35 per person one-way so $70 round trip. When you arrive at MCO you would be assigned a Magical Express bus, when you leave the port you will be assigned a DCL bus, and then backto the airport you will be assigned a DME bus.
We just got back Thursday.

If you want to add a few more hours at the resort you could use car service to the port. Depends on the number in your family and you may save a good bit of money with car service. Disney transportation to the port takes a little long because of the passengers loading and the stops that have to be made.

Transportation round trip from MCO runs $69.00 per person. If there are 5 in your family transportation will cost you approximately $345.00. Car service companies can hold up to 10 passengers, for the above approximate price, in the vans. There is maybe 4 to 5 hours involved in the total ground transportation process using the bus system.

Car service from WDW-Port and Port-MCO would run you something like $240.00 depending on the company. The ground transportation time in car service runs about 2 hours as the car service picks you up at the resort and goes direct to the port. On the return car service can be scheduled to be at the ship the minute you get off and you will be 45 minutes away from MCO. The Disney ship starts unloading around 0700 and it is possible you could be one of the first off. It is possible to schedule a departure from MCO as early as 1030h and have ploenty of time to make it.

If time is of essence car service has it over the bus transportation and the process of getting there and back is much easier.

If you are doing an extended (Land-Sea-Land) Disney cruise, the DCL transportation will end at the airport and you could use Magical Express (reserve in advance) to get to your resort for the second "land".

There may be a few obscure situations where the trip back from the port takes you directly to the second "land" for a slight additional charge.

Except if one of the resorts in "land-sea-land" is not a Disney's resort e.g. is the Swan, arrange the DCL transportation for that and the DME transportation for the Disney's resort.

I haven't done the land/sea cruise package since they added ME to the mix.

When I went, you made the resort part of your cruise package and you were transported on all three stages on the DCL cruise buses (airport to resort, resort to cruiseline, cruiseline to airport). I guess now that ME is part of the mix, part of the trip is on ME buses. But it should all be included in your cruise package costs.

What is also nice is that if you do the DCL package, the cruise check-in at the resort is significantly shorter in time, because there are only a few people checking in from the cruise line package, as compared to just the resort package.

But with the new online check-in, that should go fairly smoothly now too.

And definately do the resort portion before the cruise; that is what I always did. If you do the resort after the cruise (like friends of mine) they regreted it, because they were too exhausted from the cruise to really do the parks.

My only issue with using DCL transportation to the ship is the time they depart. I like to get to the ship as early as possible. I get an early boarding time, pass the time in the terminal relaxing. Then, I can usually get onto the ship by noon or so. More often than not, the DCL buses don't get there until 2ish, or later. If you want to get there early, I would use a car service. But, from what I understand, it's very easy to take the DCL bus back to the airport....they can get you checked in right there.
If you aren't doing a land/sea pkg, you can book DME from MCO to your WDW resort, then book either DCL bus service or a car service for your ride to, and from, port.

Wer are in the same boat. We normally get a rental car and drop it the day we get to the to WDW but to get to the port DCL is $ $35 per person and will not leave before noon. You can start boarding at 1130 most times. ATC will start at 10am and stop at the airport before going to the port.

If you book your resort stay separately from a Land/Sea package, you cannot check in for your cruise at the resort, you must check in at the port.

Also, DCL is not included in your cruise, it is a separate charge.
