Do you have to book airfare with your DCL reservations in order to use DCL transfers from the airport to the ship? I would like to have the DCL bus pick us up and return us to the airport, but would like to book my own airfare to get a better price. Can you book transfers if you handle your own airfare? Or do you need to book the flight with the cruise to add on DCL transfers?

Thanks

You do not need to book DCL airfare to use the transfers. We just recently returned from our 3 night cruise and were able to get transfers when we booked our cruise. I used the webpage to book the cruise and transfers were automatically included (I believe you had to select not to include the transfers when making the reservations.) We actually arrived 3 days before the cruise and left 3 days after. After I got my cruise documents, I called the number on the transfers ticket and arranged our pick-ups from other than the airport as we were already at a WDW resort and returning to a resort. We had no problems at all. I booked our own airfare to allow us to arrive early and leave late.

Hope this helps.

So if I am understanding this right, you can use the transfers whenever you want--from either the airport to Port Canaveral or from a Disney resort to Port canaveral. You simply call them and tell them when and where?

Thanks for the clarification!

Our transfers that came with the cruise were from the airport to the port and back to the airport. I called them and asked them how best to handle the transfers since we were already at WDW. They told me that I would need to get to one of the resorts where the cruise buses leave. For us the closes one was the Swan. We had to make our own arrangements to get to the Swan from the ASMu. From there we rode the bus to the port. They told me there would be an additional charge to return to a WDW resort from the port instead of the airport. The charge was $4 which they were able to charge to my credit card right over the phone.

If you are staying at one of the resorts where the cruise buses leave from, it should be easier for you. The resort will handle your luggage right from your room, as I understand it. Since we were not, we had to get our luggage to the Swan and check it in with the bell service people. From there we did not have to deal with luggage, as it was delivered to our stateroom for us. After the cruise, you have to pick up your luggage and take it through Customs yourself. (There are porters who will help.) Then you take it to the bus returning to the resorts and it is handled just like the Mears buses at the airport.
