Disney Cruise Line: Simulated Test Sailings With Volunteers Beginning June 29

I should be happy (and don't get me wrong, I AM happy) that this info came out about the test cruises) but now it just makes me impatient for more.

Is it bad that I refresh this forum 100+ times a day looking to see if there is new information? I'm like an addict!

I’ve been scouring the internets for info too, booked on the Labor Day Dream cruise .... cautiously optimistic....

You are in good company.

We are booked on the Aug 21st Fantasy cruise out of Port Canaveral. I was giving that slim odds a few days ago, now I am giving it a 50/50 shot at being a go!

It's worth noting that a Dream test cruise would only allow Dream cruises to sail - not anything on any other ship.

It's roughly 21 days post test-cruise that you could expect authorization for revenue sailings. CDC requires 14-day follow up data from disembark onward, and then you have to figure a bit of time for collation and review.

In theory they could sail the day after approval, but there are some elements to THAT which are obviously awkward. Most people would want a little more notice on go/no go.

Links are not loading for me, but I think they will run the test cruise mainly to test their protocols and mitigation measures as far as their *execution* and NOT their *effectiveness* in prevention of disease - having vaccinated adults in smaller than normal numbers on board as passengers allows them to practice the execution of different measures. It would be foolish though to deduct from a successful run that a full cruise ship with a mix of passengers of unknown status will have the same results, as far as the effectiveness in preventing transmission. I haven't seen the plan for that "2.0 test", but it would be quite a jump from one scenario to the other.

So basically they want everyone on the simulated cruise as vaccine appropriate age. Yet, if they really wanted a simulated cruise they should have had a placebo effect of a small group not getting vaccinated to see if it would still spread on the ship.

I no longer have anything booked but this makes me so happy to hear!!!!!!! so exciting.

Let teachers on it! They're not working during this period and likely to be vaccinated.
Or all of us food service/grocery workers who have been working this whole time, and being put at risk. We kind of need the break and nobody gives us anything ever. No discounts for food workers anywhere. I imagine that they will go with cast members on this cruise and special invite only.

So do you think they will do simulated exercises in the kids club with adults? It seems like that is the greatest area of risk if they resume cruises. If not directed, adults won't organically hang out in the kids club and then protocols won't formally be tested. I'm not quite sure how you would social distance in the kids club.
I know it's all speculation at this point.

Given that it won't be a full ship, and there won't be kids, my assumption here is the "test cruise" isn't actually testing each and every variable, scenario, and protocol.

I get the feeling what they really want to test is throwing a bunch of people on a cruise ship for 2 days and see if anyone catches Covid. They may be more concerned with dining and shows than anything else, but I agree not testing kid interaction kind of defeats the whole test purpose of the cruise. But it is what it is.

So does only requiring 10%...seems like the test cruises are just to get back in the swing of things and make sure the staff has implemented and executed the protocols.

Not sure. I would think they will test all their planned protocols, even in the kid's areas, or areas that are not naturally used during the testing period for other reasons, but like you said, it won't be organic or a very good predictor of actual conditions. And yes, distancing is, imo, not at all possible on a fully booked cruise ship, and not just in the kids club (but especially not in the kids club). Given how easily disease spreads on a ship... I really don't see anything else but proof of immunity will do, no matter the age...

I imagine that DCL is in a tougher situation then the other cruise lines. Being a family cruise line, it will be much harder for them to fill that 95% vaccine requirement until all kids can get it. We are so happy that our children are grown now because there is no way I would be taking little kids anywhere while this is still going on. I wish that they would just make a decision and let people know do they can plan.
