Hi, I see the Disney cruise ins covers if for a medical reason or illness. My husband and I both have older parents. If they had a medical issue (hospitalization for example); would the Disney ins cover that if we had to reschedule or cancel, or does it have to be related to someone on the cruise? Thanks!

You'd have to read the policy carefully to check, but that doesn't sound like something that would qualify for 100% refund from any travel insurance companies. The only exception might be if (God forbid) one of your parents died, but that would also depend on the exact policy.

Needing flexibility in case your parents' medical issues pops up would more likely need to be covered by a Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) policy, and those usually only cover about 75% of the vacation cost. This coverage is usually more expensive than non-CFAR coverage and can usually only be purchased within 2-4 weeks of paying the initial trip deposit (though these factors are not the case with DCL insurance). DCL insurance automatically includes CFAR, but DCL's CFAR 75% benefit is not in cash, but in the form of a future cruise credit.

That really depends on the policy. I've found that in particular CFAR coverage has ballooned in price since Covid, so when opting for CFAR coverage, it's often cheaper to go with DCL's insurance.

But yeah, shopping around can be worthwhile.

Try Googling for trip insurance comparison sites and the first 2-3 are the most common around here. These sites allow you to compare different plans for the same/similar coverage. Once you've narrowed your options, I always recommend calling to discuss any specific concerns you want to be sure are covered. Nothing is worse than thinking you have insurance and then discovering your reason isn't covered as you expected.

This may not be helpful but we recently changed to an annual travel policy for the almost the same cost as one trip policy after reading some travel tips on blogs. We had a cruise that it covered and have a few other trips in the next 10 months that will be covered. Wish I would have learned about this earlier.
