My DIY skills are mainly "paper engineering". I make autograph cards and journaling cards (Disney scrapbook paper glued or adhered with doubled sided adhesive film to Bristol board). The cards for autographs are 3x6 and fit into photo album. 4x6 obviously would work but I don't like the proportions as well and I also get more from my materials by using the narrower dimensions.
Journaling cards I vary in assorted sizes. Some smaller (3x4) might have Bristol board backing. I do one per day just a hair smaller than that which will slip into but sit up in the pin trading lanyard pouch. That one has the times for ADRs and FP so I don't have to check the app on the phone too often. I do 2x2 (finished size) folded squares from light weight drawing paper or heavy weight copier paper. I have used flower folds and various other clever folds, some requiring a little snip to make a larger square into little pages. I save Disney logos from any source and glue them on. A cut up box that had held Mickey bandaids gave a great yield of small bits
I also put the notes for the color clothing of the day on the one in the lanyard pouch. (avoids the last day green socks with lavender shirt issue).
Next year am taking brother and his family to Disney for my 60th birthday. I made everyone a little hand drawn "vacation ticket". As the plans come together, I will do luggage tags, a "formal" announcement of dates and locations, etc.
I have altered little pocket notebooks - the sort with sewn pages so some can be removed to make room for extras like pockets for cards. I use little cards for the notebook for planning. I have several sorts of packing lists on the little cards - carryon, check through, park bag. For me for a week a 2 1/2x 3 1/2 stiff card for each is fine. For longer trips, larger family, more complex journey larger is needed and the clever folds could come in handy.
Vacations only last x amount of time but the planning before and preserving memorabilia afterwards give a much longer period of pleasure. Go for it!
