Disney Club Vs. Visa

I read somewhere else that they were doing away with the Disney Club adn replacing it with the Disney Visa. So my husband went to apply for the Disney Visa. He had a bankrupcy about 5 years ago. but since then he has had perfect credit. But you can't even get past thefirst page with out a bankrucy on your record. If this is there replacement for the Disney Club they need ot re think this. I am not sure what they were thinking. We will not be able to take part in the discounts and I don't think that is fair. I am very upset. I needed to vent and thought this might be the place to do it. Thank you for listening.

You are right. This IS their replacement. And I have heard tales of some people on these boards with pretty decent credit getting denied so it doesn't surprise me what you said.

I hope this whole adventure Disney has taken doesn't turn out to be the cash cow they must expect it to be and we see the return of the Disney Club or something similar soon.

Other than that, if you go to WDW often enough, you might want to consider an AP. At least you can get some discounts on rooms, etc. using that.

adventurerkat,

I wasn't going to say anything, but my SO has A-1 credit. He has never had anything bad on him, and he was denied because of a lack of us owning our own home, we rent. The reason listed was something along the lines of lack of revolving mortage or something like that.

I think Disney needs to getther head out of the clouds and listen to their loyal customers adn think whatthey are doing to them. I love disney and have always. That was a great time when on Sunday night the family would gather around the tv for Wonderfl World of Disney but this is getting out of hand. They are becoming money hungry and that is not what I rememberof Disney.:(

I may be in the minority here, but I actually like the Disney Visa. I never (or very rarely) shop at the DS, so the Disney Club discounts didn't do me any good. My brother now belongs to DVC, and we stay using his points, so we don't need room discounts. I couldn't justify an annual membership to the Disney Club. Someone in our group had an AMEX card, which usually offered the same discounts on merchandise purchases at the big Disney Store that the Club membership did. That's the only thing we've lost (since they ended their partnership with AMEX). We also get some dining discounts now with my brother's DVC membership.

We use our Disney Visa for everything--groceries, gas, you name it. We pay the bill off every month when it comes. So far we have 27 DDRD.

I know it's unfair that not everyone can get the Disney Visa. But for me, personally, it's better than a Disney Club membership.

When they first came out with them in March, there was a big discussion about credit cards that offer rewards. There are probably some out there that are "better" than the Disney Visa with the % back on purchases. But since we were previously using the LLBean Visa that only offered 0.5% back as LLBean coupons, the 1% in DDRD didn't sound too bad to me. And we don't fly, so the cards offering airmiles weren't any good for us either. And the AMEX card just confused me with their tiers of reward %.

So far I'm happy with it. But then I haven't tried to cash in for my certs/cards yet and try to use them.

Just my opinion....

I don't think there is a problem with Disney having a Visa, I just think that the Disney Club shouldn't have been discontinued because alot of people like it.

No Disney Visa for me. I liked the Disney Club with the 10% that I got to keep for spending at non Disney stores, or just to keep in my pocket. 1% is a joke, when you have to spend it at Disney again. Disney wants me to give the 1% back to them for future purchases. They want too KEEP ALL my money. Yea Right!!
JMO, bring back the club!
The CHASE card lets you earn 1% and gives it back to you each month on your statement to spend anywhere , just not Disney. This card along with the 10% was best for me!

For me the 1% I am getting with the Visa amount to more then I would normally save with the Disney Club.

I was glad that it was available for me for the purchase of AP's (both WDW and DL) but if for not those "one time" discounts (renewals get the discount already) I would have never spent enough to "pay for" the card, let alone "make money" with the card.

YES, you can only use the rewards at Disney but aren't you already spending money at Disney? So this way you are earning your "Disney Money" with every day purchases. Like Eilonwy, I have used my Disney Visa for every purchase, including some household bills, and paying off each month.

To me 1% on everything I buy is better then the 10% off on ONLY Disney Purchases, any day.

We used our Disney Club card for discounts for car rentals and needless to say Disney Merchandise. With a 7 year old daughter who wants everything princess--we used it a lot.

Combined with my Amex discounts, the disney club was perfect for us. In fact I renewed this past year. However, I see the discounts declining each time I try to use it. Basically, it only benefits me at Disney Stores and in the Disney Catalog/Website.

Even though my Amex card has membership reward options (2dollars equals one airline mile), I believe using it will be of more benefit than the Disney Reward Visa. Does anyone else feel this way? I can redeem my AMEX points for several merchants and with all of our family living at least 900 miles in opposite directions from us, airmiles are valuable to this family.

While at Tinkerbells Treasures in MK last week, the store manager made the comment that several people are upset about the change and wish the amex relationship was still there. She said that she did not think the Disney Club would return or the AMEX relationship would be renewed until the "long term" agreement with Visa expired.

Looking forward to hearing more from others.

I'm sad to see the DC go and the Amex disounts gone because we're not eligible for the Disney Visa in Canada :(.
