I guess i missed the announcement about the ending of the Disney Club.

Do they have plans to replace it with something or is the Visa Card the what they think will take its place?

Are they trying to end ALL discount programs?????

I guess they feel in a time of deflation they will make all of their products more expensive. This company is run by a guinious, and their stock price shows it.

DC is ending at the end of the year - it was announced a while ago. As far as a replacement - you are correct - Disney Visa is it.

Thats all I have to say about that.

....and a pretty poor "replacement", it (VISA) is ! You'd think Disney would want us to keep a 10% discount purchase option--after all, we're the ones who buy Disney stuff !!

At the usual rate I use my credit card it will be another 5 years before I get enough "points" to amount to anything.

Oh well.

I refuse to get the card.

They keep taking more and more away from us. You would think from all the emails sent that they would have changed and kept the club since it has such a tremendous following.

I kept hoping maybe, just maybe something would change or something similar would pop up.

No, just keep taking away from the dedicated. Maybe someday they will realize their mistakes, but by then, it may be too late.

I will miss the Disney Club and Disney will miss my money. :smooth:

After I decided not to re-up, they conveniently took away my remaining one-year subscription to the Disney Magazine.

I called both the Disney Club and the Disney Magazine about this troubling situation.

The Disney Club gave me a real run-around:eek:

The Disney Magazine took pity and sent me a recent copy of one that I missed.:)

I no longer am a member of the Disney Club and no longer pay for the Disney Magazine. And like the former poster, they no longer get my money$$$. ---Wilma

Don't they know we, thier loyal fans want everything we can get Disney. At the present time I have all the credit cards I want, and can have for that matter. I will nolonger be able to take advantage of the small discount DC used to offer.

Makes you wonder just who is in charge, and what the H they are thinking. I didn't use it that much, but I paid anyhow. As a DVC member most of the discounts are duplicated with the membership there, but the discount at the Disney stores was good. My membership runs out in August, and I don't think it will be worth the yearly membership for the remaining 4 months.

The DC renewal rate is pro-rated to until the end of the year. You do not pay for a whole year's renewal.

As for the Disney magazine, I recently received a renewal offer for DC members, saying that since the DC is ending I could renew the Disney Magazine for two years for $9.95. That's a pretty good deal, so I renewed.

To be honest, other than for the magazine, the only things I used the DC for way the 10% DS discount and a slight discount on APs. Well, it looks like the DS days are numbered, and I am saving my reward dollars from the Disney Visa to use towards renewing my APs. I don't feel at all like I'm losing discounts. In fact, I will probably save about $300 on renewing my APs. I'd say that's pretty good.

The reason I was upset was because I was a "Magic Kingdom" card holder from the beginning and because of this, I had received the extra 2-year subscription to "Disney Magazine" which kept adding and adding up. When I decided that the Disney Club was not something I wished to continue (after many years), the company also took away 2 years of my subscription, without showing it on the mailing labels until the last issue that was sent to me.

Trust me, I keep track of things like this and called both the Disney Club and Disney Mag. This is something I usually NEVER do. Like I explained in an earlier post, at least the Magazine sent me its latest copy, while the Disney Club gave me a rather lame explanation as to why my many months of free magazines vanished in the wind! Go figure...Wilma

What I can't figure is why Disney would end something that people paid for. Now they have a credit card they don't own and they have to give rewards for. I bet the % they get won't equal what the DC members spent at Disney stores and the parks. Must be the new math at Disney corporate. On top of that, Bank One is refusing people with extremely good credit so that Disney won't get their money. :smooth:

Actually, I would guess that Disney does not pay for the rewards. They are a portion of the merchant fees that FirstUSA is charging the retailer that accepts the card. You then have rewards that can only be spent at Disney - which is a win for them. I'm betting the biggest expense for Disney in this partnership is the administration of the special offers. Bank One/ First USA most likely takes care of the rest and may even pay Disney a fee for the right to use Disney's name and imagery in it's own advertisement. You can be sure that Disney is making more up front on this card than they made in membership fees with the DC.

The only potential catch is if the Disney masses don't feel satisfied with the level of offers and rewards or the availability of the Visa card. Might they stay away and stop spending? I doubt it!

As for me, I will only miss the Disney magazine and pass discounts since the room discounts and TDS discounts are mostly irrelevant with DVC. And the rewards I have earned so far have already more than matched the benefits of my entire time in the Disney Club. But that's just me...
