Disney Christmas Tree Ornaments

Man...
This stuff sure is expensive... We have been thinking of doing a disney tree and man this stuff is expensive..... does anyone know how to get a Disney Themed tree without going so broke ill have to skip getting christmas gifts

any help would be great

I started buying a few ornaments each year. They really are expensive. I also got lucky one year and the Disney Store clearance all their storybook ornaments. I think I got 5 of them for about $15 each!!

It took me about 10 years to be able to do my entire tree in Disney.

What you can do is use a ton of the basic glass balls (in one color to make it look more united) and then accent with the Disney ones as you get them.

When you go to Disney, look and see if you see any on sale.

On one trip I bought a 10 or 12 pack of the mini glass Mickey heads for $12. On my Dec. 06 trip I went ahead and bought two more packs. I also got a really big glass castle for $12.

When I was there in August there were several different ornaments for $2.50 each at the Bargain Mart (or whatever it's called.. the $10 and under store). I bought four of those very large Mickey head ornaments at 4 for $10.

My local hallmark store likes to clearance previous year ornaments. I have been able to get quite a few ornaments at 70% off. They usually have plenty of Disney ornaments in their selections.

My mom took all of her antenna toppers & threaded a loop on the top - viola! Cheap disney ornaments for $5 (or so) each- and they don't break if they fall on the ground! LOL

We made fun of her, but it looks really cute.

We started the Disney Theme decorations for Christmas several years ago. Started slow, found alot of nice ornaments on Ebay. I am "cheap" so just bought when I felt I got a deal. Would watch at garage sales, and had people I knew "looking" for Disney ornaments all the time for me. We now have enough to fill the entire tree, plus have all Disney decorations for Christmas - except for the Manger, Angel & Star for the tree. It is so festive, I wish I could keep them up all year. I think the quest for my Disney ornaments was as much fun as displaying them Enjoy

We do the antenna toppers here too! We also got the special glittery antenna toppers that look like the glass Mickey head Xmas ornaments (bag of 4 for $15 at MouseWorks at Epcot and the Christmas store and World of Disney at Downtown Disney - may also be at the World of Disney store in NYC) and they are so lightweight that their decorative "Christmas Ball Hanger" tops actually work to hang a real ornament hook on there.

We got an offer a couple of years ago, i think through scholastic. It was a disney ornament per month, not that expensive. We kept the trial one and didn't buy into the club, so i don't remember the specifics, but maybe check out the website?

We have special Disney ornaments we use on a 6ft slim tree we bring on Disney Christmas vacactions. I got lucky at the dollar store one year and saw packages of red ball ornaments that had mosaic-like plastic squares, size small and smaller, and they were proportioned just right to make Mickey heads. I used hot glue and they came out very cute. For about $10 I made 30 ornaments that are similiar to the really nice expensive ones sold at WDW in the plastic bubble pack. We have about 20 painted flat wood character ornaments that were sold in the late 90s at the Christmas shops at WDW and lots of small Disney plush. The tree looks very nice and everything but the plush packs up into a pretty small box. We also put Christmas Disney plush in our regular tree. They look great!

I heard of someone buying the character play sets (the kids figurines made of resin) and drilling a tiny hole in the tope of each one and gluing in a little screw eye. I thought that was brilliant. Each set of 6-10 ornaments is about $12.

Our christmas tree is done in Pooh and friends. It has taken us years to collect them but now is so full they don't all fit. I tried to talk DH into a bigger tree. When friends see our tree noone can believe that there are that many Pooh ornaments (and yet there are so many more I want) The good thing is when I see all the beautiful trees in stores I don't even think twice unless it's pooh related. We do have one Christopher Radko Mickey and Minnie (but those are the only exception) We even have honeypot wooden garland and if anyone know where I can get more let me know. (bigger tree need more garland) I love my tree because it's unique and I always shop for sales after Christmas.

In some years, I'll be able to decorate a whole tree with them!

Disneyshopping.com also has ornaments on sale once in a while, and of course there is always eBay. I always get the nice Lenox ones from there!

I brought ours in the sale....we have Cinderella - with a dress...a glass slipper and baulbles.....and her all dressed up on top it's all blue and silver and looks really effective....

Has anyone done this yet? Are these the same as the Grolier ones that used to come one a month? I have a lot of those but was thinking of this since I can send back the ones that I already have.

As for my ornaments I also get them at the Hallmark store when they start marking things down. The disney store usually has some good clearance after the holidays too.

Yeah, I know that they are expensive. When we went down in May, my mom bought us a set at Downtown Disney and man, she paid a pretty penny for the set!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (she gave it to us as a gift because she knew we would never buy it for ourselves!!LOL)

We started collecting ornaments two years ago. We buy one we really, really like and then whatever is on clearance in DTD when we go. My birthday is in July so I usually get the Hallmark ones as gifts after they go on clearance.

Being the craft junkie/ cheapskate that I am, I'd buy small inexpensive Disney toys, attach a loop of ribbon with a hot glue gun and voila - Disney ornaments at a fraction of the price. If you'd like you could jazz them up with a little glitter or ribbon. Or you could make little wreaths from the sparkly chenille stems to fit around the characters' necks etc.

You could then gradually phase in more "real" Disney ornaments in years to come.

The best thing to do is buy a few each year as others have said. Filling in with red ball ornaments looks really nice. We used to have a slim bear themed tree (teddy bear collector here), so I had a lot of pooh ornaments. We had been picking up other single disney ornaments as well. We are changing the bear to a Disney theme, so I will use the pooh and have started to collect others. Last year, I got some really good deals on the disneyshopping.com site before Christmas, including the Tink tree topper that lights up. Ebay is a good resource also. Just watch out you don't get caught up and overpay. It might be a good time to look now while people aren't in the Christmas mode yet. Have fun!

I just got 4 disney ornaments at a rummage sale that are unpainted ceramic. You could try a ceramic store in your area or a store that sells plaster craft. I haven't done ceramic's for a few years, but they used to be pretty cheap for the unfinished bisque pieces.
