There's a fairly lengthy article in the Orlando Sentinal about the long term prospects for Disney in China. The short version is that Disney thinks it can make money off of the new middle class in China, which is still growing. They discuss the brand recognition (which was, ironically, enhanced due to video piracy in the late 80's & early 90's), the rise of the middle class, and the cheep labor rates. The down side is that the government is fickle and there may be human rights violations.
Disney is still discussing putting in a second park on mainland China, but only after the Hong Kong park has time to establish itself.
