Maybe this has been discussed here already, but I haven't seen it and right now I am too mad to do a search.

ANYWAY, please be aware that as soon as you register on the Chase website, you are authorizing Chase to go paperless with your statements. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way.

This all started about 2 months ago (not to my knowledge) when I first signed up online for my Disney Rewards card, prior to our WDW vacation. Well, for the last week Chase has called me twice to tell me that they have not received last months or this months payment. The first time I spoke to someone she verified my mailing address was correct and that they were going to mail out another statement and for me not to worry, just to mail the payment when I got that statement (since it had never been late before now). Well, I never got it and they just called me again tonight. I told the woman on the phone that I did not get the one from last week and she said are you paperless, I said "huh?" (I am not one to make payments online or do much online banking), she said this has been happening a lot to customers when they register online, they are automatically signed up for paperless. Well, that's nice to know, AFTER THE FACT! The rep did not have any idea online where to look and see if I was paperless, and could not change it on her end. She then transferred me to someone else who didn't have a clue either, but I asked him if I can still use my card before they receive the payment that I am mailing today. He said "oh no, your account has been closed!" CLOSED!! This isn't even my fault! He said you will have to apply for a new card. I said you can't be serious, I have been a good customer, and this was not even my fault. He said there was nothing that he could do. Well, needless to say, I will NOT be reopening it.

Sorry to ramble on and on, but if you open your account online with your Chase Disney Visa please make sure before you log out that you have the correct box checked for how you wish to receive your monthly statement!

I can't believe they closed your account! But didn't you realize that you had a payment due? Regardless, I do think they shouldn't have closed your account, especially when you have been a good customer. Hopefully you'll get it all cleared up.

I think I would call and ask for a superviser, maybe they can help...if not you should write them cuz most likely it will show on your credit rating

Wow! Poor customer service, for sure! Thanks for the heads up though. We're new to Disney Visa and haven't yet signed up to get our rewards card. I'll make sure I keep up on my payments in case I end up paperless too.

I have been making my payments with Chase online for over a year and I have always received a paper statement in the mail. Is it a new thing now that they make you paperless when you register? I have been a Disney Visa holder since they were Bank One so maybe that's it. Sorry to hear about your issue. I had the same problem with our hospital. I signed up for their online account access and never got a bill until I got a letter from a collection agency. This happened three times! I called the hospital and they said that they mailed out multiple statements and confirmed my address. I told them I never received any bills. They suggested I check with the post office:rotfl2: It sucks because we have the money to pay the bills as most of them are only $40-50 but yet we never receive a statement informing us that we owe the money. We do get the EOB's from our insurance company, but since I work in healthcare and personally know many of our providers, they sometimes write off what insurance doesn't cover and chalk it up to "professional courtesy" which is why we never know EXACTLY what we will owe.

I haven't had the same experience as you. I have always paid online & receive a paper statement. In fact, my Disney Visa was recently stolen. I had to reregister on the website and I am still getting a paper statement.

Sorry that happened to you. I agree that I would call and talk to a supervisor.

I always pay my card online and still receive a paper statement. I also have my preferences marked to send me an email reminder so many days before my payment is due. There is a spot you have to check or uncheck to go paperless. I always made sure I answered so I would still get a paper statement. I have not had any problems with them.

I've had my Disney Visa since they came out and I've always been registered online so I could monitor my account, but I still to this day get a paper statement in the mail. I do pay online sometimes, but I still get the statement in the mail regardless. Maybe this is something they are doing to new members or to people that are just signing up online now? I don't know. I do recall when I signed up there was a spot to decline going paperless and if you didn't look carefully, you would have missed it and been consenting to receiving no paper statements.

I just got my Disney Visa in January(signed up on line) and have had no problems. I get my statement in the mail and I pay 99% of my bills online through our bank. Plus when I activated the card they let me pick my due date(well they had some ranges you could choose from).

Though this month I didn't get DH's cell phone bill, got mine, so I called CS and got the amount and payed online like usual.

I'm registered online too and receiving paper statements.

It's not in Chase's best interest to simply close accounts. In most instances they would simply make the account inactive until payment is received.

I would call them back and speak with a supervisor to clarify.

I just don't understand why you didn't call the number on the back of the card, get your balance and pay what you owed from the get go. I would have paid at least the minimum payment to protect my credit from being harmed and then waited for the statement.

They cancelled the card for non-payment. You charged items, you had to know you had to pay for them. I'm shocked they didn't call you at some point looking for payment.

I understand your frustration with them changing your billing options - but, in their minds, that doesn't excuse the fact that the bill was not paid. Even if you received paper statements, they could have been lost in the mail.

The hospital example given is completely different - a patient couldn't possibly know when the bill was coming, how much it would be, etc. But a credit card bill not being paid for two months? That is completely the cardholder's responsibility.

Sorry, I just don't see the need for a "warning" about Chase.

I totally agree with this. I have a line of credit and sometimes my bank is bad with sending out the statement AFTER the money is due. However, I still know that I owe the money and always make sure it is paid on time regardless of whether I receive the statement or not.

My credit rating is one thing I'm not willing to mess around with! In the end it doesn't matter who's fault it was, you're going to be the one losing out for a delinquint(sp?) account.

Yes, we all know it's our responsibility to pay our bills, BUT life is busy and it's not unheard of that the OP would forget about that bill if it didn't arrive as usual. People are not perfect, and sometimes we forget things, even big things. When you're paying a stack of bills, it can be easy to overlook one small one. We've had a card in the past that would let you skip a couple of months, and you might not get a statement those months, because they wanted that extra interest to accrue. The OP admitted error, and the vast majority of people at some point have forgotten to pay a bill on time. That really doesn't excuse Chase from offering anything approaching customer service, which they did not.

The issue is that she didn't want paperless billpay, and they changed her account to that. They acknowledged it's been a problem but did nothing to fix it. Then they closed her account without any reference to her previous excellent payment history or the paperless issue. The total lack of decent customer service (we're not talking about someone with a list of delinquencies) is appalling. OP - you need to talk to a supervisor and at least make sure this isn't hurting your credit.

I have had problems with Chase on-line as well. Too numerous to mention. All I can say is now I only have one card with them and ONLY use it for Disney Booking when you have to use it., Ie, Free DDP.
I will say that after closing a CC with them last week, they called this week to as why? They wanted to speak to hubby, I said I had an account to and he was not home, so she looked up me and said ok I can talk to you. Unfortunately, when I told they reason, which was, online and phone account access between them f(including mortgages) or me was denied since many accounts are in my husbands name EVEN though we put mine first... hubbys alwyas takes priority with them and he doesn't have a clue about the household finances. She said that there was nothing she could do. Why do they bother to follow up? They hire survey takers who can't do anything. Then I was really glad I closed my account. ANnway, you may get a call asking why you closed your account, but the person probabably will have no power to do anything about it.
good luck

Oprah did a show about Credit Card debt, etc. where they told you how to get out of debt, lower your interest rates and also tricks that CC companys pull. I remember them saying that one trick they pull is to send a small pamphlet, with really small writing, (kinda looks like junk, its not even in an envelope) and somewhere in there it says, "BTW unless you call us to say otherwise, we're jacking your interest rate up". Most people only read the first page or two of the jargon and throw it out, if they read it at all. Next month, your interest rate is through the roof. Apparently, tons of people don't even check them!!!!

Anyways, months later I received a pamphlet just like they described and I "almost" threw it out, until I remembered Oprah. I read it and sure enough, on the last page, it said they would be raising it like 5 points, it was way too high....
So I had to call and close my account, so I lost all of my rewards :( I do not trust them at all; so just a warning....keep an eye on your mail and your interest rate :)

OP, we had the same issue with not getting paper statements after signing up on-line!! BTW, this JUST happened a few weeks ago (two, I think)--so for those of you who haven't experienced it yet, make sure you keep track of when your bill is due to come next in the mail.

Fortunately, dh realized we hadn't gotten the bill yet, and thought it was strange. He called the company, and sure enough, since we had recently signed up for the on-line account, they automatically did not send us a paper bill. Dh paid the current balance off over the phone, and cancelled the on-line access. I'll be checking next month to be sure we get the paper bill on time!!

I have a Chase consumer card for BP Gas and I signed up online but they gave me the option of going paperless or receiving a paper statement. How strange.

Well I've had this happen to me with a Dell bill. I only owed $200 on my laptop and was waiting for the statement so I could send them the correct amount for the last payment. They messed up my address when they changed systems, they had it backwards so I never got a statement. Dell is usually so on time with their statements that I called, requested another statement even after I confirmed the had the correct address and it still didn't show up for a month. Then a week after I called to confirm the correct address I get a call from Dell Collections, I guess they have an agency in house, about my late payment. I explained the situation to them, they had me on hold for 45 minutes before they found a supervisor to confirm my story. If they hadn't confirmed it they were going to charge me $457 even though the actual payment was $203 and change! I hate consumer cards!

You have to stand your grounds with CC companies! If not they will walk all over you. Don't let them give you a solution, you suggest a solution to the problem and see if they will meet you at least halfway. Be stern but not rude and they usually give in.

I also had a BAD problem with our Disney card.

We did a balance transfer of $10,000 to our new Disney card and had it for a little over a year. I always made my payments on time, never went over my credit limit.

Well, one month, Ebay charged me a sellers fee automatically to my chase card and I went over my credit limit. Next thing I know, I got a letter from Chase, saying that they were going to raise my rate from 14% to 24.99%.....ON TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS!! Can you imagine the finance charge?!?!?!

Needless to say, I closed the sucker and I am relieved. Now, I can pay down my balance and feel like I'm making head-way. :goodvibes

I think that is standard practice among credit card companies. If you read the fine print it will probably say they can increase the interest rate.

OP here,

Thank you, yes, that is what happened. Since we had been on vacation, we had a stack of bills to pay when we came back, and I just didn't notice that wasn't one of them.

Obviously, when they first called me I immediately wanted to rectify it. That's when the customer service rep said not to worry just send it when I received the duplicate statement in the mail. That was only a week ago, so I thought I just hadn't received it yet. If I didn't get it in a day or so I was going to call them and find out why.

Maybe it is a new policy from Chase, but I think alot of people are going to get screwed by this.

I will be talking to a supervisor when I call next week to verify that they did receive my payment.

I just wanted to do the "warning" to let others be aware, so it didn't happen to them, too.;)
