I am confused. I read in a posting of a news brief that The Disney Channel has switched to basic cable rather than being a Premium channel. Does that mean they are no longer charging for the channel? I find that hard to believe, particularly since I have not seen a decrease in my cable bill. Am I misreding something?

i think i have straightened out my confusion. it appears i may be illiterate in terms of "cablespeak"

I think it depends on your cable company.

For my cable company (Adelphia) it is part of their "plus" package, that include Disney and 2 other channels (Discovery? and CNN?).The package is an additional $4.95 or something a month.

As pathetic as their programming is these days, hard to imagine paying anything extra for the Disney Channel(s).

Regular Disney Channel is free (it should be since the programming bites!) there is another Disney channel that costs extra (cartoons I think???) .

In my area, Disney Channel is very expensive-I believe it is $17.99 a month which is much more than HBO and SHO. ToonDisney is part of my digital service and has no extra charges. Does anyone else out there have any prices for me to compare so I can yell at my cable company (Comcast)

My mom has basic cable with Adelphia and it includes Disney Channel. If it weren't for having a 13 year old in my house, I wouldn't even WANT Disney Channel anymore. It's all geared toward preschoolers and teens.:(

Sorry, Stanley. I can't compare prices with you, as where I live, both the Disney Channel and ToonDisney are offered by the local cable television company as part of the basic package.
As for whether they are bad or not, I have found that their programming for the most part, is neither better nor worst then the programming offered by most of the other cable channels I receive. Indeed, I like to watch a hour of the Disney Channel, before I go to work, and a hour of ToonDisney, after I come home from work.

Our cable company used to charge $10 a month for TDC, but a couple of years ago it became part of the basic package.
