Disney Cells

I have a friend that has two cells. One is from Disney Lady and the Tramp and the other is Casper the Friendly Ghost (not Disney). They are the actual cells - not the promos you get when you preorder a movie from Disney.

She paid a few hundred dollars for each and is interested in selling them. She has all the paperwork for them. I do quite a lot with ebay and she asked me to check on the cells on ebay. The only things I found were in the $40 to $50 range.

Would anybody have any idea how to go about selling them and getting a good price for them. She has just lost her job and is trying to get some extra money. Is there any type of collectable store that might be interested in purchasing them or at least giving her an estimate on how much they are worth? I don't think ebay would be a good place to sell these.

Thanks for your help,
Linda

Linda,

I believe you are right about ebay, however it does reach a large audience and she would not be out anything by trying a reserve auction. That way unless she got the asking price she wanted, she would not have to sell them.

Another option is to place an ad in a newspaper. Old fashioned, yes, but Disney fans are everywhere and I have picked up quite a few vintage items this way.

Message Boards are also helpful. Many have Sale Boards.

As far as determining the value, when it comes to those the value is in the collector and how much they are willing to pay. Hope this helps!:goodvibes

I am not sure where you were looking on ebay, but a quick check under collectibles/disneyana/contemporary/animation art, cels shows many items in the multiple hundred dollar and up range. As for estimating the worth of the cels there are many galleries who can quote based on a description what an item might be worth. If your friend has all the paperwork then they also have all the important details. There are many types of cels from production cels to hand painted limited edition cels to sericels etc. While they are beautiful items and I have some of each different type, finding a buyer willing to pay what they are worth is not always easy. I hope your friend is successful.

I suggest you contact John Cairns at First Animation Art in Iowa. I've known John for many years and and I can vouch for his honesty and reliability. Twenty years ago, I told him about a cell I was looking for... last year he found it for me!

The site will give you an 888 number and you can talk to him about the pieces your friend wants to sell. I'm sure you will have an honest appraisal.

I knew this was the place to go.

I checked in ebay under Disney cells - I guess I should search further. Thanks also for the phone number. I will pass all this information on to my friend and hopefully she will be able to sell her cells.

You may want to try "Disney Cel". There is only one "l" in sericel. That might help with your search.
