Disney CARS - wondering at what age Lightning McQueen starts to lose appeal for kids

Hi- was wondering about the age range for diecast Lightning McQueen & friends toys. Are they still popular with 5 & 6 year olds? Also, same question regarding Toy Story action figures... Thanks!

My boys are 5 and 6. They have all the die cast Cars, and they do play with them...but they play with them no differently then regular Matchbox cars. They honestly don't care that they are Lightning and folk.

Same with any action figures. Action figures get used when ever they build forts and such...but one cation figure is as good as the next.

With the new movie Cars 2 coming out, I think they will find a new love for them.

My DS5 doesn't play with them nearly as much as he used to (he has pretty much everyone under the sun) but he does get them out on occassion. I think he will show renewed interest with the new movie. I would think past about 6 he probably won't play much with them anymore.

Legos seem to be the new thing for him now. Almost every daycare friend at his bday party got him Legos.

My DS is 8 and is still totally into the Cars characters. We are so looking forward to Cars 2 this summer. All of my younger children like Toy Story, we have some action figures but none of my younger boys really got into action figures. We do have several of the TS Lego sets that they got for Christmas though.

DS' friends seemed to decide Cars things were babyish in Pre-K, and he followed shortly. They still like the movie and will play with the cars with other matchbox style cars, but won't wear the t-shirts or anything like that. And he gave a bunch of his Cars and Toy Story toys to a family friend who is 2 years younger. Same thing with all Disney characters, really...he is still so excited about DisneyWorld (thank goodness!), but wouldn't touch a Mickey backpack or Buzz Lightyear lunchbox with a 10-foot pole when we shopped for kindergarten in the fall. ;)

His friends are all into Star Wars and Spiderman, even though most of them haven't seen the movies. And Legos!

DS is 11 and still gets them out every now and then. Then again he doesn't care much what people say.

I work in a middle school and the students love my Mater sweatshirt. I've even been stopped by teenagers who asked me where I got my shirt. I guess they come back around again to like Cars stuff.

I will agree that legos are very popular with boys in the grade school to middle school age group.

This is also one mom who can't wait for the new movie to come out, but will be sad that Doc Hudson is gone.

My son is 5.5 and still likes Cars and plays with the cars, but as someone else pointed out, they are used as other diecast cars. He is excited about the new movie though.

I agree with the other person who said Legos were the thing for 5-6 year old boys. My son is totally obsessed!
