A friend recently got a job at Disney and told me the other day about something interesting I did not know and figured I would share.

If you give your camera to a Photopass photographer or another guest to take your picture and they drop it/damage it - talk to a cast member immediately and they might be able to reimburse you for your camera (up to $1,000) depending on the situation.

If you damage/break your own camera they will just give you a disposable one to replace it.

So moral of the story is NEVER TAKE YOUR OWN PICTURES ;)

PP photogs I can 'kinda' see, but another guest? That seems a little far fetched.. I dont think I'm going to try it, let's leave it at that :)

Probably just another "higher expectation of Service" that Disney does. $5 disposable = much happier customer than customer with no camera.

are you sure you don't mean if a Photopass photographer or a cast member damages your camera?? I can see the scammers out there working up some scam if it covers just any old person!

You got that right! If that's true (which I seriously doubt), Disney is going to go broke buying cameras. I can see the scam now: buy a non-working camera on ebay for next to nothing, bring it to Disney, then hand it to some random person (who happens to be in on the scam and has a bad case of butter fingers) and VIOLA! You got yourself a shiny new camera, on Mickey.

But that's not what I was refering to.. I was reading the OP and they said PP photog OR another GUEST.. Not me.. Yea if I drop it, they would happily let me have a disposible.

I could see Disney giving a disposable camera if a guest damaged a camera, but, I do not think they would buy you a new camera if a non disney cast member damaged your camera.

Yup, that's what a PP told me after using my D200. He didn't mention the amount but said they are covered. The pic turned out to be awful but at least we had something on my camera and that I'm thankful for.

I know it sounds weird and I would have thought it would just be Photopass photographers but that's exactly what he hold me.

Now I don't know what the situation has to be (if the break-ee has to be there/proof of working camera before hand/etc), but it was good to know.

???????????????

meaning anyone who does not work at Disney.

Here is what I think. Unless I see something in writing from Disney, I do not believe it. Also I would think if by some slim chance this is true Disney at best would pay half the cost, after all you are responsible as well. You did give someone you do not know your camera to use.

Nope, we read it the same way. :) That's pretty good service if they'll give you a disposable no matter who drops your camera. :)

Didn't mean for this to become any sort of big debate or anything - just if heaven forbid something happens to your camera tell a cast member (I'd say go to guest services) about it and who knows what will happen!
