Has anyone ordered a cake from one of the on-site restaurants? My daughters will be celebrating their 9th Birthday at 50's Prime Time at MGM. I was wondering if they were good? Or are they like the kind you find at a grocery store? Just curious if anyone felt they were a good value. Do the restaurants make a big deal over B-days and such? I figured Prime Time woulld with all that I have read.

We have purchased a few. I can remember the one at Liberty Tree Tavern. It was good, not fantastic, but it only cost about $10-15. We got one from the GF (through their Conceirge). It cost a whole lot more and was shaped like Mickey. Maybe $35. It wasn't as tasty as the cheaper one. Coarser in texture.

Will be having our first disney cake on Saturday. Disney has changed it's cake ordering rules now it seems, you can only order the cake from the restaurant you will be dining in and some restaurants only make certain kinds of cakes. If you are interrested in a specific cake flavoring it's best to call the restaurant ahead and see if they make the type of cake you want.

In our case Alfredo's restaurant only makes chocolate cake. Because of my mil's food allergy they make a special change for us. We had to keep Alfredo's restaurant because it is the only Disney restaurant with seating for 14.

So my advice would be to call your restaurant and make sure they offer the flavor of cake you want and work from there.

Finally, the actual cake can only be ordered 2 days ahead of time by calling the restaurant direct. Hope this helps, enjoy:)

Has anybody ever had a birthday cake in House of Blues? We will be having dinner there on my dad's 60th birthday there and I would love to surprise him with a cake... :cake:

Anyone have the number for Brown Derby? Thats where we are eating.

No, but i'd love to hear what you find out :) I'll be there celebrating a b-day in 14 days.

We had lunch at Le Cellier in June and the family at the next table was just finishing a birthday celebration meal when we sat down. They'd ordered a cake and didn't want to carry the other half of it around the park all day so they asked the waiter to give it to us! It was a really delicious multi-layered chocolated cake with a light, whipped icing. It was SO good, and such a sweet thing for them to do!

Sounds good :cool1: Disney seems to bring out the best in people.

How are the cakes at the Brown Derby? I'm hoping they will be terrific.

I had a Brown Derby birthday cake last month and it was delicious! It was really lovely, very fresh with good quality buttercream. It was a very nice surprise my husband arranged. I think he had a choice of chocolate or vanilla.

I too am having my daughters birthday in disney..her 13th..I have ar for le cellier..our first time there..my ds says it is amazing..but How in advance do you have to order a birthday cake?

This answer relates more to resort restaurants but maybe it will help someone. For birthday cakes at resort restaurants you order from room service/catering for that hotel, early. We did one at California Grill, it was only like $12 and while not big, was a huge amount for three people-- we brought some back to the room. Quality was fine, nothing special. About supermarket quality. I would have much preferred one of the pricier specialized California Grill deserts, but I wasn't the one turning seven years old. Seven years old, they like the cake, the candles, etc.

I know at the Brown Derby the required advance notice is 48 hours. At least thats what I was told.

I ordered one from Resort Dining (Beach Club), that way it was already in our room and we could "graze" on it for 2-3 days. I got the birthday package that was $50. It included a triple-layer chocolate cake, balloons, noisemakers, confetti, etc. The cake was MUCH better than grocery-store purchased. You can call the Resort directly to do this.

We had our first Disney birthday cake last Saturday. I arranged an ADR for Spoodles thru central reservations and then they gave me the number for the Grand Floridian Bakery. They sent over a chocolate cake with chocolate icing and Spoodles did a great birthday presentation of it with singing. The cake was wonderful.
