Disney Buys Land for Future Resort Hotel at National Harbor

.....Anyway, when I realized I had a handicapped tag (from my ankle injury last year), it solved the problem. Without it.....we could still be driving around DC looking for a parking space!!!
So you are one of the reasons those of us who are really handicapped (I'm confined to a wheelchair) can't find handicapped parking spaces! Nothing bothers me more than seeing somebody able bodied walking briskly from a car they just parked in a handicapped parking space! Many people like you need it for a while due to an injury or surgery but keep them in case they need a parking space. Worse yet are the teenagers and 20 something kids who use grandma's for their parking convenience!

I thought those temporary hang-tags expire? Let's not come down hard on her because she was probably desperate. But I understand your frustration. My friend can't walk, and when we go places, I drive. She has a hang-tag to use in other people's cars (her own has a permanent license plate). Many times the Handi-capped spots are taken and I have to find a safe place to "drop her off", go and park and return to help her into the building. i hate having to leave her there stranded by the curb while I park! I'm sure she feels guilty and won't do it again. Besides, she doesn't want to get a ticket for an expired hang tag!

In most states that hanging tags expire in two years. The problem is that date is only written on them in magic marker and can easily be removed and a new date written in. I can't tell you how many of these tags I've seen with the blue tag totally faded but the date looking very new! I have a friend has a six year old tag in its early faded so some of these have to be very old and thus illegal!

This is one of my favorite pet peeves. I thought it was ridiculous before I became handicapped and now that I am it infuriates me.

I'd love some Great Wolf-esque Disney hotel in the DC area. We'd like to visit DC, but with a young child, museums and monuments must be kept to a minimum. We went to GWL in Grapevine recently and really enjoyed it. If we go to Williamsburg, we'd stay at the GWL up there. I can only take so much history and education!

I'm sure Disney would have its own water taxi and/or shuttle bus to downtown DC. Adventures by Disney could use the hotel...I don't know, I think it would be fun. I'd still prefer Disney's America though. I guess I'll take any Disney expansion I can get these days!

PARDON ME - WHO MADE YOU THE HANDICAPPED POLICE.

I am still walkiing with a cane as my physician insists that surgery is the only option for complete healing of my ankle. I have the handicapped tag BECAUSE I NEED IT.

At the moment, surgery is not a financial option for me so I continue to walk in pain. I did not think it was necessary to qualify my posting with my medical history.

TRY A LITTLE COURTESY THE NEXT TIME.

I try as much as possible to NOT take advantage of handicapped spaces but if I had tried to walk from the regular parking areas for this memorial I would have been in agony.

Yo would think someone with a handicap would be more thoughtful. I have discovered new respect for people with mobility challenges. I guess that respect is not universal.!

Oh... I think that he was under the impression that you no longer needed it and just kept it for your convenience. Clearly that is not the case. The parking in DC often is quite a distance from the monuments and the museums. Even if you are in a wheel chair, the distance sometimes can be too much. Remember this city was designed by Pierre La Enfant to be attractive and for horse and buggy (and few of them at that). It was NOT in any way designed for cars. That's why its SO bad. Most of these museums and monuments were built when cars were many fewer. Even the curb itself isn't that close to the building. Once we had to take my MIL, drop her off at the curb (the handy capped spots were filled) and help her up the stairs where we then could fetch a wheel chair from inside. Its not easy. Even if you're not handicapped... try the city with a jogging stroller!! Try the metro with one!! Talk about a challenge! I pray for a total Disney take-over of the city. The improvement would be profound. :dance3:
