Help me!!

I bought a disk of Designs from Ebay, and they are coming out like crap! I emailed the guy back and he said my machine settings are for a narrow stitch. Can you change the stitch width for embroidery?

you can see off to the side, the black outline is completely off, and look at his eye!! There are blank spaces all around it!

As I see it, there are two potential problems: 1) the designs and 2) stabilization

For #1 - I suspect this might be an issue because it looks like there aren't enough stitches in some area. ARe these official licensed designs, or just on some disk? I've only ever purchased one large "collection" of designs on bay before and the designs did not stitch out well. I don't know whether that was because they were originally done in another format and changed, or whether because they were likely digitized by someone who is hoping to make a quick buck (not by a legitimate source.)

For #2 - I suspect this because the outline gets off in places. What type of fabric are you using and what are you using to stabilize? If you're on T-shirts, try using a stitch in or iron on stabilizer that is not tearable. Or use two layers of stabilizer and put them at 90 degree angles to each other to make sure that the fabric doesn't give in one direction more than in another.

Another potential fix would be to use a thicker thread. You'll get better fill, but it might not solve the issues above.

Thanks!! I believe the disk is a compilation of digitized images. so i'm not planning on buying any more of those!

It was just practice, so done on a scrapt sheet. we used the Sulky stablilzer, but have also decided to switch to the tear away.

I'm leaning more and more towards the disk as being the problem, as we have no issues with the designs on the machine, or any of the chrsitmas designs i've gotten a disk for either. just this one.

Yeah, sounds like it's probably the designs. My guess is someone scanned in some pictures, used an auto-digitizing program and never went in to check and/or fix things. Quick and dirty to make and unfortunately they sew out poorly. Hopefully you didn't spend too much money on them.
