What would be one or some good Walt Disney biographies? Have you read any that weren't up to par? Thanks for the input. If you have an opinion be sure to share.

my DS is reading the new Neal Gabler one and is enjoying it.

I just can't seem to get into the Neal Gabler bio. I've had it for about 6 weeks now and it's sitting on my bedside table. I've maybe read 1/4 of the way through. I've really got to be in the mood to read it, I guess.

The Neal Gabler book is a good one, but REALLY detailed, especially with the financial stuff.

One that I really enjoyed alot more than I thought I would is "How To Be Like Walt" by Pat Williams. It's a biography / life lesson / self-help type of book all rolled into one.

I'm still working on the Gabler book, but I like it a lot. Trouble is, I read it at night, and can usually only make it through a page or two. At this rate, I ought to be done by late 2008 or so! Watch for my review! :lmao:

I have read about 1/3 of the Neal Gabler book. Wow! Extremely detailed and seems to be the definitive Disney bio. I had it for 4 weeks and had to return it to the library, so now I've got it on my list to finish -maybe this summer. :surfweb:

As one who reads as much about Walt as I possibly can, I can tell you that there are three that I highly recommend (no particular order) - Bob Thomas' An American Original - until recently "the" biography (and still my favorite), Neal Gabler's Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination (now considered by many to be "the" biography) and Pat Williams' How to Be Like Walt (a great read by a wonderful author on on eof my favorite subjects. Also, Michael Barrier has just written The Animated Man: A Life of Walt Disney that is also supposed to be very good. Both Gabler and Barrier take a much deeper look in to Walt the Man - the good, the bad, and the ugly. They are both somewhat hard to start and are lengthy, but they are both very good.

Can't go wrong with any of them...

I just completed the Bob Thomas book. I enjoyed it and learned an awful lot about Walt. I also read Disney Wars which is not about Walt at all but is about Micheal Eisner, it was a good read too. Walt was an amazing man by anyone's estimation, Eisner was an amazing man by his own estimation. It was interesting to get a glimpse of Walt's genius and compare it to Eisner's lack of smarts.
