Disney begins leadership shuffle

Can we do anything else?

No...that's why "insider blogs" are useless...

The last "big announcement"...avatar...was out of nowhere.

Nobody writing on a Disney sight has any
Clue...it's just window dressing for some misguided self importance.

Only the accountant knows for sure

EPCOT desperately needs a massive infusion of imagination. I hope this new leadership shuffle brings that back into the mix.

It does...but the infusion of cash would have to make sense and yield profits...or it will never get approved.
They could definitely throw some life into the old girl and get the crowds up...but I'm skeptical.

They really bungled the "renovations" from 1997-2007...no clear definitive plan, schedule, or goal...banked on some technology that proved too costly for the stomach of the Eis...

Nobody wants investment in EPCOT more that this cat.

As much as I hope this is a good thing, there's always the possibility that it can be very, very bad.

Yes but you cant always think like that. Sure we never know until they say something, but to believe that NOBODY in WDI cares for Epcot is just stupid. Like you are really going on a limb to believe that. Will Epcot be fixed overnight....no. Will it take multiple years....for sure. But to believe that nothing is ever going to change again at Epcot or that they will never make anything new is as idiotic as those who believe Disney will open 4 new rides in Disneyworld by the end of the year.

Not totally true. There were a few out there who said that Disney was holding off until the Japan D23 Expo to announce Avatar I remember that cause I thought it was stupid.

Woah woah woah... Isn't this classic heresay nonsense from the over zealous blogosphere? Not the reassignments...they do that constantly... Like when Paul pressler was transferred from running the most expensive amusements ever created...to the ugly sweater division at old navy...to custodial in the 6th layer if hades... (Couldn't resist that one) But they are doing a complete redo of EPCOT? Great!!! And a full division exists for really sinking their teeth into building lots of new stuff covered in the price of admission in studios? Well...I only assumed...but GREAT!!! Come now...are we gonna swallow this at face value...based on recent history?

If everyone were as negative as you, no one would go to WDW.....

What were these?

Specifically?

A technical problem child in test track that opened about. 5 years late and cost close to 300 million dollars...ask GM about that.

A PR headache in mission space that yielded lawsuits about the simulator technology...and an amusement park ride in happyland that exploits cardiac defects in some if its riders.

Wonder of life...was let die in the swamp. Can't figure out in this world/country how they let the MEDICAL pavilion...of all things...just rot away and still to this day.

And of course...the very high profile disaster at imagination...who's ill planned gutting - along With the replacement of horizons - really did a doozy on the soul of the park.

If people rejected the status quo as I do...the economic impact would force more benefit for the customers for their dollars.... Two sides to every bad penny ;)

There's is a difference between rejecting the status quo and you're posts. Your bring negatively to just about any thread you post in.

So what motivates me, then?

I'm dying to know...

Of course has made dumb mistakes. Every company is going to go through times of dumb mistakes. I mean we sit around on the internet everyday of our lives waiting for Disney to make a move and then analyze it and pull it apart to see how it relates to how Walt Disney wanted it or how it would have been in 1978. I understand a lot of bad was done to Epcot....a lot of bad. Imagination is a shell of its former self, Horizons is no longer there and Wonders of Life is sitting empty. I get that. Those are dumb mistakes. But to believe that good has been done at the same time is stupidity as well. Sorian was a great add to Epcot set aside that the film was just borrowed. But look filming at Walt Disney World takes place next month for a new film! Mission:Space is something you don't see in many theme parks and is only bashed due to the ride that came before it. Test Track didn't fit thematically when the original opened, but the only reason it was delayed was due to the system being so complex that the computers crashed when only six of the cars were on the track. And they have just fixed the theme problem by putting it in the 21st century and you all still complain. When something comes to Epcot in the future people will continue to bash it and try to compare it to the rides of the 80s. The 80's are over. Stop looking back at what was and look at what we can do in the future. So yes you are motivated by past mistakes but stop believing that nothing good will ever come again.

P.S. World of Motion closed in 1996 and Test Track opened in 1999 so four years. Might want to fix that post. =)

I don't wish for the 80's at EPCOT because the Internet changed the realities of what can and can't be built at EPCOT. I just think Disney can't figure out what to do there...

As you detailed... They have failed fairly bigtime there...that is the cause for skepticism more than anything. The committment to doing it right hasn't been there.

But they have failed to really do much with animal kingdom as well.

They have been very cruise control in the swamp. Not to say things haven't been done...they just aren't about the guest experience. Especially EPCOT.

The bar is just kinda low right now. I hope to be surprised and that they see what they need to do. We'll see.

I understand 100% and your doubt is totally acceptable. Disney has dropped the ball and Epcot began to fail under the Eisner era. Not sure what was wrong but he didn't seem to care much about Epcot. He wanted to change things but wanted to do it in tacky and cheap ways. But with Sorian filming about to begin and a new creative team I believe that something good is going to happen at some point.

Well...I remain with some hope and alot of cynicism...

Even soarin...which to be honest is most closely related to the now defunct back to the future ride at universal...was a clone from a horrid California adventure park.

That... Is the crown jewel of investment at wdw for the last decade.

And I like midway mania...but even that is a clone of a much older competitors ride.

Does anyone else look at it this way?

In the last ten years they have these two...the compete mishandling of downtown...the ole yeti...and...???

Some nice retrofits...lots of DVC and wristbands.

What am I overlooking? How can I be encouraged?

Sorian is great even if it came from a crappy park. That doesn't ruin the fact the ride isn't great. Toy Story Midway Mania is a great and who cares if something similar is in another park. This version is unique and a totally new experience to Disney. Everest is a great coaster but no I wont overlook the yeti either. How about you look back before the bad stuff. Look at Tower of Terror and how much of a theme park marvel that was. Animal Kingdom is beautiful and beats any park in Orlando, Florida and almost the country for most beautiful part mind Hester and Chesters which was mostly due to Eisner. Epcot was something never seen before and never has been seen. Tides and technology way beyond the time. I look at that and see a Disney who could do anything. A Disney that could build mountains and castles, who could take us to places beyond our wildest dreams. I believe that the Disney of then will one day return and will become the Disney we remember.
