My mother has been pushing to have one of my sons get their first haircut at the barber in MK since they apparently make it a big deal experience. How far in advance, if at all, do you have to make reservations for this and would I just call the main number?

As far as I know, they don't take reservations. When we were there in August 07, we took my godson on his first birthday there for his first cut. It was first come, first served. Not a long wait, just a few people in front of us. We also got a cut for my son, who was 2 at the time. I wouldn't say they made a BIG deal out of the first cut (they had just as much fun with every other kid in there), but my godson did get a certificate and a set of Mickey ears that said "First Haircut" where the name goes.

It was a great experience, and I would recommend it.

We took my 2 year old DD for her first haircut this past Monday (7/20). We were there at about 2:15 and waited less than 10 minutes. My little one rarely sits still and will throw a tantrum if she is the least little bit unhappy. We were prepared for a fight. The lady who cut her hair covered her with Mickey stickers, gave her a toy, and was patient and gentle. My DD was as happy as could be and did just as she was told. She got mickey ears that say "first haircut", a certificate, and pixie dust in her new do. The cost was $14 and no reservations are needed.

My 12 year old DD had done this 9 years ago and it was sort of the reason we took our trip this time so the younger one would have the same experience. A highlight of our trip!

And....as soon as we were done, we walked right out front, grabbed a curb, and watched the 3:00 parade right where it starts. We were at a great spot....tons of characters interacted with my girls!

We were just there two weeks ago and had DS4(turned 4 on trip) get his first haircut (don't laugh, really...he'd never had his hair cut by anyone and when I told him we could do it there for his 1st haircut, he got all excited and told everyone Mickey Mouse was going to cut his hair!!!:lmao:)

They don't take reservations, it is first come/first served. We didn't have to wait long though...we went right before the 3:00 parade (around 2:15/30 and were out before the parade began. Even staked out some good parade seats right there as the floats all come out some really big doors right by the Barber Shop.

DS4 got free Mickey Ears w/First Haircut on them, certificate with his name stating it was his first haircut, CM showed me on the receipt even where it says baby's 1st haircut, and she saved his curls and pixie dusted them inside the wrapper. He also got lots of stickers!!!

It was a lot of fun and a great deal at $14.00. DD6 even got free pixie dusted (confetti) in her hair for watching and being a big sis!!!

Have a magical trip!:wizard:

They do not take reservations. If the line is long just keep checking back.

They don''t take reservations but if the line is not too long it is well worth the wait. We did this with my son when he was 18 months old. It was one of the least expensive things we have ever done at Disney (excellent value - something like $14 and you get the haircut stickers, embroidered mouse ears, certificate and lock of hair in "pixie dust"). It is perhaps one of my favorite Disney memories.

Never done the barber shop there but have heard great things-they do very similiar things that the BBB does for boys w/o the cost!! I've seen pics here before but can't remember what it was under....

Back in March we took DD7 and DS8 to get their hair pixie-dusted which was way cute. There was a little boy getting his first hair cut there and I think it's worth doing. But what we did was get to the MK before rope drop and position ourselves to enter the train station on the LEFT side. Then we hustled to the Barber Shop (just past the Fire Station) and we were 2nd in line. That way the kids had their dolled up hair for the entire day and they got a TON of comments from CM's, characters and guests. Have fun!

DO IT!! DO IT!! DO IT!! It is an awesome experience. Tons of fun. We started two trips ago, getting our youngest's first haircut, and my older son got his cut too. So now it's a MUST on every trip. They ladies are very friendly, great with the kids and talkative with the grown-ups, too. In fact, everyone waiting was very friendly and pleasant. It is first come, first serve, but everyone seems to be polite and take their turns appropriately.

And they give very good haircuts for the boys!

We went this past Feb and was able to get my 3 yr old daughter's hair cut for the first time and was so glad we did! I don't remember what time we got there for sure (around lunch time) but went to the barber shop first and there was only 1 other person in line waiting! Had there of been a line we would of went and rode some rides and then came back.

Not only did they trim her hair (her hair does't grow that fast so I didn't want them to chop it) but they put some of the hair in a paper towel for us, she got her Mickey Ears that said first haircut on it and also her certificate! It was well worth the $! Plus she put some sprinkles in her hair as well! :lovestruc

I highly recommend taking your kid there for their first hair cut! (or any hair cut for that matter)

We do this every trip and I am 41! Only 1 time was the line long. It was during the free dinning and it was mid am and I waited for at least 60 minutes. In Jan I walked in no wait. In April it was 10 min or less. Some do not want hair cuts just sprinkles and gel. Plan on doing this in Oct too.

I brought my kids there last year. all of my boys got haircuts. My little one got his first cut and received his first haircut ears and certificate. My middle son also got his hair spiked and painted. He loooved it. We are going back this year and that is the one thing he asked to do again. I say go, it was a good haircut for a great price. I will try to post some pics later.

We got our DS 1st hair cut their last year. They did quite well with it. We did have to wait about 10 minutes because there are only 2 chairs in the small barber shop. Gave him toys to play with while they were cutting his hair, put the clippings in a pouch for my wife and gave him a set of Mickey Ears. Here are some photos.

Hey!! Howed that get in there.!!

The hours are 9-5 daily. The opening and parade times seem to be the best for little to no wait. I have also heard that you might need cash for the tip b/c they can take the room card, but cannot include a tip...I think I have that part right:)
We got our DS2's first haircut there too...great memories and pictures!

OH!!! How absolutely precious is that???????? He's even checking out what's been cut!!!!!! That's a keeper!!:goodvibes

Thanks to the OP for starting this topic....I was just about to start a thread! LOL

Anyway, thank you all for the info. I would have done it no matter what, but the experience just seems so magical now. And (believe it or not with my OCD self), I have already packed a small sandwich-sized zip lock bag to take a lock of hair home in. We have one from each child's first haircut.

Oooohhhh....this just make me all the more excited!!! Two months cannot come quickly enough!

:thumbsup2 I wish I was able to get my kids 1st hair cut here!! Take lots of pics-to always remember the magic!!!:goodvibes

It really is so cute! they get the ears and a certificate and ours actually gave us the hair in a little baggie. We had Mikal! And we've been back to him twice! The boys love getting their haircut there. This last time the barbershop quartet was there and sang through their haircuts!
It is one of those magical moments in Disney. Reasonably priced and the barbers are all great but special :lovestruc to Mikal(I hope I am spelling that right I know it's unusual but I hope I got it right!)

Just to add, my DS 5 will get his haircut there for the 3rd time...it is one of his requests:)

My DD is so patiently waiting for our trip as she already plans on getting her hair trimmed there. Her friends had their hair cut there earlier this week and I can't wait to hear from them when they get back.
