Disney back yard show - what do you think so far?

Ok, I consider myself to be a Disney Fanatic. I image there are quite a few more of us here on the DVC board. If there's anywhere you'd find someone wanting Disney touches in their home, it's probably here. I know my house has quite a few Disney nick nacks throughout it.

As much as I love all things Disney, there's no way I'd want any of the yards I've seen so far on the new HGTV show, My Yard Goes Disney.

Anyone else been watching? Would you let them do that to your house?

I have to admit when I saw it for the first time last night I was disappointed......

I've watched a few. The only one that I felt was "fun" and lasting was the one built with the AK theme around the family's big tree.

I've only seen the train one so far and I wasn't that impressed. I'm hoping to eventually see the rest of them.

I saw a couple of them but wasn't impressed. I could see where the kids would out grow them very quickly. I would love to see one that is geared towards adults, maybe a resort based one and I would gladly volunteer my yard!!!!

I saw the one with the POTC pool and thought it was pretty neat.

The previews for the next episode was disappointing. Not sure that I would want much of that stuff in my yard.

I thought they were pretty neat. Don't know what you do when the kids grow up though. Anyone know how they pick the families?

Our favorite was also the AK one. The first one was our least favorite. What are they supposed to do with the giant hat when the kids get bigger? They needed a crane to bring it in. I can't even imagine tying to get rid of it. Our family had already picked out a world showcase theme if they did our yard, but have since changed it to wide world of sports. I have 4 boys - so that would be a hit!:rotfl2:Next week's doesn't look great, but I'm sure we'll watch.

I agree--the first show was not very good. I liked the Mickey pool last week. Last night's pirate theme was pretty neat too--especially the rock patio area. I can see that space continuing to be useful for the family.

Any idea where the houses are that they have made-over? It looks to me like they must all be in Florida. Every yard has had a palm tree added to it. As much as I like palm trees, it would never survive a winter here in northern Illinois!

I'd like to see a show with a family of older children--or maybe even just adults! We all know that you don't have to be a kid to enjoy Disney!!

I liked the pirate theme the most thus far. but an 18" pool?? What were they thinking?

I've also noticed everything has been in subdivisions. My sister lives out in the country, and I would love for Disney to build stormalong bay in their back yard...but with a WL theme to match the house! ;)

I agree, Florida. If you're quick, you can Florida license plates on the families vehicles- when they take the kids away.

They need to "Epcot" the backyards into beautiful gardens and entertaining areas for the homeowners. The kids are not going to be 5 and 6 forever.
Right now they are doing to many Fantasyland expansions in the people's backyard.

That's what I expected to see when they first started advertising the show.

The fiberglass stuff is just way too over the top and tacky. OMG, if they put that whale thing in my yard with the picture of the two kids surfing on the spout, I'd have had an absolute fit.

Oh, I don't think they've been that bad. They definitely look fun. But I agree, the designs seem easy to outgrow. I wonder what they'll do for the re-sale value! :lmao: Quite the niche market, I would say. I definitely DVR it so I can fast forward through some of the cheesy parts. But I'll keep watching. I would take a Mickey pool in my backyard.

I live in Cincinnati, and I know that at least one of the houses was in Cincinnati. I haven't followed the show at all, but this was a house with two younger girls. I saw the pictures in the paper after it was competed, but I really can't remember the details.
About two or three months ago, a newspaper article solicited Disney fans, and gave a website to access to apply. I know one person they contacted for follow up, but I don't think that person was selected.

I want the Mickey pool in my back yard! I love it.

I only saw the Cruise (Mickey pool) show and the Pirate show so far. I'm enjoying it and dreaming. I wish I could have signed up for them to do my back yard.

Kelly:)

Although I kind of like it, after all, it does have to do with Disney, it's not as I expected. I'd expected that the yards would have been designed and done by the owners. I guess I was looking for things that I could get ideas from, not big, professionally done yards
