Disney App Real Time Wait/Lines

Yes, it does.

Just a random not on accuracy - it's pretty accurate but at certain times of the day (nighttime in particular) they bloat the wait times on popular attractions so that you won't go ride it then.

Does that part of the disney app only get activated when when your actually in the park? I don't see where the menu has a estimated wait times.

It's always there. If you open the app and click on the map at the top, the wait times will automatically populate. You can also click "show list" at the top and it'll show the list of attractions and wait times.

Yes and while outside the parks as well. I try to check daily for long wait time attractions a few days prior to our trips to see what the current wait times look like. I feel like more times than not, most waits aren't as long as posted wait times at the ride as well as in the app. I do think they're pretty close though. And of course, those times when we waited longer than the posted wait time, we got off the ride and noticed the wait times were updated. It's not an exact science for sure.

From what i have heard about the times displayed is that its the time it took for a person to go through the line. meaning if i stand in line at 12:30 and get on the ride at 1, they will display a wait time of 30 min. despite the fact that the line may have grown even more making it a much longer wait than displayed

Every now and then, the CM at the entrance will hand a red card to a guest and ask them to give it to the CM at the front; this is at least part of how they estimate the lines - it may only be one input or used as a correction factor or confirming factor. So, yes, the wait times can end up being longer by the time they get the card especially for popular lines or ones with long wait times. The Lines app does something similar, although I find it much more accurate. Subscribers can upload the posted wait time and then set a timer when they enter the attraction. When they get to the front, you turn off the timer and submit the results. They then use a mix of the actual data, posted data and an algorithm honed over many years to estimate the actual waiting time. On Lines, you'll see what the posted time is and the estimated "actual" waiting time. It's interesting when you use Lines and set the timer. I've been in line some times with friends and when we get to the front they claim that the posted and/or Lines estimated time is way off (i.e., we waited much longer) but the timer shows that it was close to the estimated Lines app time and was much less than what they felt it was.

I remember the cards, but the "Lines app" is new to me. Definitely something i will be checking out during my next visit

I always wear a running watch and for some reason I like to hit the timer while waiting. I've found it is almost always the same time as posted, within 2-3 minutes. I stop it right before I get on the ride. With that said, I don't wait on hour long lines, so the long ones may be different.

Remember, the wait times at the end of the day are often inflated to discourage guests from entering just before closing.
