Disney Announces New Toy Story Land for DHS

I agree with you (up to a point). There are also outdoor shows and that stupid wand shop thing in both lands. Plus to be fair a LOT of shops. And Butterbeer. ;)

I am mostly hoping for a well-themed area.

You are also talking five attractions, two of which are probably among the best theme park attractions in the world, one is a really good roller coaster, and two are family friendly. Plus two restaurants, a gazillion shops, entertainment, interactive stuff everywhere, an ice cream place, nocturn ally, and butter beer. And real beer.

Alright, after further contemplation...

Let's remember what Toy Story Midway Mania is at its core. The story, as told by the Imagineers, is one day Andy decided to put on a circus midway underneath his bed. It draws extensively from the circus or fair concepts for inspiration.

I'm guessing that the boxy building to the mid left is TSMM. Here's why:

See how the other building to the far right is part of the new Slinky Roller coaster building? It clearly travel through it, and the offload unload area is serviced there. Other candidates are washed out because they have different theming like Al's Toy Barn or Woody's Roundup. Additionally, zooming in reveals something interesting...

The Midway/Circus theming is visible off of that building. Midway Mania is an obvious answer for why that exists there, especially off of the bulky buildings. If I had to guess, the new Midway looking facade falls around here (purple pin):

Any other ideas?

I'd say very very likely

That makes sense! The artwork had me SO disoriented lol. I couldn't place TSM because I couldn't figure out where in the heck Great Movie Ride was! I never considered that they might move the entire entrance and walkway to the other side!

He's a little different from my take. I'd place the new entrance about where the Toy Barn is located in his concept. I'd also move everything towards the right. Though I saw it over there myself, and it was only a little while after the announcement. He put that together fast! Impressive.

Expanding into that area would make the park feel so much bigger. I know a lot of people are looking at it as a kiddie land, but I'm excited to see it! I think the slinky dog coaster sounds fun, and I love all the bright colors.

Hmmm...I just thought of something else. Didn't they have to temporarily close Toy Story each night when the Frozen fireworks went off? I seem to recall reading something about that. Would moving the entrance and pathway to the other side of the building solve that problem? (if it even existed in the first place and I'm not imagining it lol)

Good point. I hadn't thought about the staging of expansions in the various parks -- Frozen (and Soarin') at Epcot in 2016, Avatar at AK in 2017, TSL at DHS in 2018, SWL in 2019-2020. Makes sense.

Gotta keep us comin' back every year:)

That might solve the problem. During both the Frozen and Star Wars Weekends fireworks, they have to close TSMM early, including the whole "road" in front of the building.

This is what I don't get: If Disneyland rejected the flying saucers for a second time, why are they building it in DHS? I suppose they've made some sort of new development to make it better than what Carsland had.

apparently from watching today's Dis Unplugged show it will be something like Mater's Junkyard Jamboree themed to the flying saucers.

Oh my comment about that "stupid wand shop" has to do with the wait in line and not the actual product. The idea itself is pretty cool.

This brings up another important issue with these expansions - crowd management. I decided to not even attempt to see the new Potter Expansion because of the crowds. I found it difficult to really enjoy the experience because all of the shops were so crowded that I couldn't even look at anything.

Part of that is a design issue with Diagon Alley. Even on "quiet" days it feels busy because of the faithful recreation of the area.

Of course Hollywood Studios has always felt busier than it is to me because it's so badly laid out. This could help fix that.

Well that was partly my point. People on boards like this obsess over the E-Tickets but while collectively Harry Potter does have 2 E-Ticket rides and you can certainly argue for them being at the peak of current US park attractions, all the shops and the little shows and the dragon are at least as big a part of the draw if not more so. My wife can't stop raving about the theming and she doesn't even like Harry Potter.

The impression I got from this presentation is that while there are only two rides in ToyStory land and Star Wars Land the theming goes beyond that. So I am expecting all those other stores and street-theater etc.

I agree with you 100% that the draw and experience of Potter is the immersive and interactive theming of the area. But I repliied to say that really the dualing dragons coaster would be an e-ticket anywhere. I'd say it is three, but over two parks. The star wars land announcement says two "new" attractions, so i guess there is a chance that we could still have star tours also. I hope that they put a level of theming in that tops potter.

Yep which has actually been rumored to be coming for some time.
Everyone kept saying over and over it was going to be Woody's Round up. I feel like this project was very changing until the end.

The benefit of all these attractions is way may see a 2017/18 opening!

Assuming the building on the left of the concept art is Toy Story Mania, and the scale of which the art is drawn, I am assuming that the new entrance to Toy Story Land will be at the current animation courtyard. It would extend to just before Catastrophe Canyon with the canyon itself being backstage area. It would then connect to Star Wars Land.
