Disney Announces New Star Wars Lands for DL and DHS

As a reminder, Disney will be back with more news at 6:00 PM Eastern. Hopefully we'll get more specifics on DHS! They blew the roof off of The Convention Center, let's see what else they have to share!

Oh God, the excitement continues......

It doesn't look like anyone is going to get Tatooine, Dagobah, Death Star, or Coruscant. Except the art looks something like the dead stumps of the forests of Dagobah or Endor.

In the approx. 1 hour left ... does anyone want to try to guess what kind of rides they're describing? The Millennium Falcon sounds like a "Sum of All Thrills" simulator ride. Is the battle experience along the lines of Buzz Lightyear, TSMM or maybe a plussed up version of Men in Black? Hopefully with real Newtonian movement and G forces (but not spinning).

In terms of the Millennium Falcon ride I'm expecting Star Tours on crack. A simulation ride with some serious bumps and turns.

Although I could be wrong and it could be an actual coaster.

Anyone feel like any Avatar news doesn't really even matter compared to SW? I went from caring yesterday, to not really even remembering it. I feel bad for Rohde, he's in the Shadow.

The rumors of the Muppet's and Mama Melrose's closing's might be coming true. 14 acres is a lot of real estate to squeeze into the park, but by closing off those 2 they could open up a wide pathway to the wooded area to the south and not have to close a lot of the park for construction.
The other option would be to rebuild everything from Indiana Jones to the Lights Motor show, but that would really take a long time and expense to remove and then rebuild.
I think they expand into the woods for Star Wars...quicker opening date for sure

Iger said (paraphrasing) "you'd expect their to be a cantina and there will be a cantina" "droids and aliens throughout the land."

I don't think it will be in backlot tour/lights motor action area, I think it will be in star tours/backlot express/sounds dangerous/indiana jones in to the parking lot area but that is just speculation.

In California, they just bought the 14 acres across from Harbor Blvd. Plus a couple of office buildings a few weeks ago. So they might put it there or they might move the back stage buildings behind toon town and build it back there/

Your pessimism is consistent.

It is...granted...

Others are not on this thread.

I've been a lifelong Star Wars fan...a heavy one...but also a realistic one of both Disney and Star Wars...

We have just been through this with avatar...an announcement 4 years ago and 2 years out from the experience...with details really sketchy to this day.

If this is "we'll fill you in later...updated coming when we have them..."

Then this is "measured response"

Everyone can celebrate...but I don't trust no details....

Give me some hope, please...

I still think Avatar at AK will be game-changing. AK becoming a night-time park is huge, imo.

Yes...disproving the argument that the pro-avatar crowd has put forth for years...

Avatar has no fanbase... Which means it was dumped in a hot minute for a powerful IP
( I mean "mentally" dumped... Still building avatarland...of course)

I've updated the beginning of the thread with this info, but I think it should be posted again...
On top of this, Disney's announced enhancements and new offerings for Star Wars:
Star Wars Launch Bay – Opening later this year, this interactive experience will take guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and Disneyland park in California into the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as well as the first six films in the Star Wars saga.
Season of the Force – This new seasonal event, beginning early 2016, brings new experiences to both coasts. In Tomorrowland at Disneyland park, guests will explore the Star Wars galaxy with special entertainment, themed food locations and Hyperspace Mountain – a reimagining of the classic Space Mountain attraction in which guests will join an X-wing Starfighter battle. Disney’s Hollywood Studios will feature a new fireworks spectacular set to the iconic score of the Star Wars movies on weekend nights.
Star Tours – The Adventures Continue – Later this year, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and Disneyland park in California will include a new adventure featuring locations and characters from the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Shanghai clones, Frozen Fun Star Wars style, and upgrades to new footage. Not a big deal, but they're nice.

I'm afraid, and i may be very wrong, that this along with dropping the hoopla two years ago and changing the celebrity autographs this past year, signals the end of star wars weekends as we know it. If there are star wars characters in the park all the time, increased merchandising, and a star wars restaurant, then the special aspects of star wars weekends as they are now boil down to fireworks (which they could have any time), celthe motor code, and celebrity talks and signings.

The celebrity signings are expensive for disney and really only benefit a few hundred guests, many of which are passholders and disney will figure they will buy passes anyway, and may of which are the same folks going to the celebrity talks. In terms of costs to disney, it doesn't really provide much for the average tourist family which is what they are aiming for a walt disney world.

And they can expect the promotional value that they get now from star wars weekends to be superseded by the promotional value of the new land.

On the other hand, it has become an ATM machines for Disney with merchandising, beverages, and packages. But if they go to doing those all the time anyway there is no reason for star wars weekends from the mba's and accountant's perspectives.

I hope I'm wrong.

So in DL it will replace toon town and thunder mountain ranch? Does that mean thunder mountian the ride too? Sorry i'm new
