Has anyone every arrived at a Disney resort and it was overbooked?? What did Disney do for you??? Kerri:bounce:

Yes, it does happen, but VERY seldom. USUALLY you get bumped to the next step up (value to mod, mod to deluxe, deluxe to a suite or concierge).

But don't count on this in order to get an upgrade, I've heard of maybe half a dozen times this has happened in the past eight years.

We were upgraded from the ASMU to the CR back in 1999. When we arrived at the ASMU they realized they were overbooked, then they moved us to the CR for what was supposed to be for the same price, they had a misscomunication problem , called the room at 6 am to ask how we were going to take care of the remaining room charge and it took them 5 hours to work things out.
That night turned out to be a complimentary one after all, but I would have preferred to pay than to go through all the hassle.

Hi,

Does this mean that there is no need to inform the Hotel that you will check in late. I'v read that for other, more smaller, hotels its stongly recomended to inform the hotel in advance that you will check in late, if you will arrive later then 6 or 7pm? If you don't do that there should be a chance that the hotel may cancel your room and assign it to others.

If you know what the policy is with Disney Resorts, please reply.

Marcel.

No, you don't need to let them know.

I arrived at 2:30am one time, and my room was still waiting for me.

I have never had a situation where there wasn't a room available but I did have a sitaution at CBR last year where they only had standard available and I had reserved waterview.

They actually never even told me when I checked in (thinking about it later though, I should have realized because my credit card charge was less then it should have been :-). I just got to the room and realized that it was a parking lot view. When I complained they said that was all they had. I ended up calling CRO, finding a room at POFQ, and switching because I did not want to look at a parking lot for a week.

It's good to know that Disney has plans in place... just in case. I once stayed at a hotel in Montreal that was overbooked and got stuck into a "closet". They gave us a big discount, but still :( They claimed that they didn't have record of my reservation even though I had a confirmation #...

I booked ASMO one time and arrived at 1:00am. My room had been booked so they sent us to ASSP.

Good Question....one I have not seen on these boards before.

I have never had any problems with a room not being available. (50 + trips on property)

In addition, more times than not, I have gotten the location/view I specifically requested. They have done a superb job!

Here is the worst case that Disney ever had to deal with as far as "overbooking"...

In 1996, Tupperware held their convention at the Swan, and overflowed into rooms at the YC/BC. Additionally this was the same week that the BW opened, and I want to think possibly a holiday weekend.

Many of the Tupperware convention attendees decided at the end of the convention that they wanted to stay on for a few more days. There were about 300 or so that did this. Under Florida law, and innkeeper can't eject a paying guest who wants to stay on for additional days.

Are you all with me so far? :)

Sooo, bascially they had about 300 people show up at the BC/YC, plus others at the Swan and Dolphin for their rooms, and there were no rooms available. So they started sending people to the brand new BWI and Villas.

Which would have been fine, except...

There were TERRIBLE computer problems, and a lot of people who had reservations at that hotel weren't showing in the system. So a lot of the people walked from the YC/BC (and Swan/Dolphin) were put into rooms at the BW that were showing as available...

And then the people with reservations (some of them DVC owners!) started showing up for their rooms, only to find out that their reservation wasn't showing in the system, and their room had been given away.

So then they started to walk people to other resorts, but many guests were hopping mad--they had booked a brand new resort and were getting schlepped off to other resorts.

Because it was a busy weekend, they ran out of rooms at the deluxe resorts, and ended up having to downgrade some peopel to a moderate. Can you imagine how furious (and rightfully so!) a DVC owner with a reservation for a 1BR villa would be if they were sent to a room at CBR?

It was a weekend I"m sure everyone involved would like to forget forever!

Hello Anne,

You are correct about the BWV situation.

We had reservations for the opening of the resort and really got lucky. We stayed in a 1 BR villa over the General Store.

We arrived early, (you are also correct about it being during a Holiday, it was the 4th of July holiday), we got into our room, went to a park....but when we got back, the lobby was CHAOS!

We really lucked out!

This is a great question with the closing of the FQ in the summer season I would think some of the resorts might get overbooked - which concerns me as i will not be arriving till about midnight . Michelle

Nah--you'll be fine. They've already blocked off all the rooms they'll need in the moderates, plus some overflow in the deluxes.

Anne

I wouldn't expect any problems from POFQ closing. They closed CBR last year and as far as I know, there weren't any problems with overbooking. I would think the CBR closing affected a lot more people than POFQ so it probably won't have much, if any effect at all.

Thanks I am glad for that.. I have a freind checking in a day earlier and we are planning on surprising our children with the trip .. they will be plenty surprised when i knock on someones door and when it opens its our friends from home.. Michelle

Hi >>^..^<< ! Nice to meet someone else from Toronto :) You've got some great pictures and I really love the Hoop Dee Doo story! :p The overbooking incident happened at the Queen Elizabeth of all places... Well, I've learned I should always call and confirm my reservation *sigh*

Interesting reading. I would bet that unless their computer glitches, the only time they have an overbooking would be if guests stay extra days.

Last November when we checked into W/L (CBR was closed, it was end of Jersey week; SuperSoaps Weekend and Vet Day weekend) we were asked by Cast Member if we'd like to go to AKL instead. I really didn't want to and didn't give it any thought till now. But after reading this, seems like there would be no reason to offer that unless they weren't in an overbook situation and needed rooms. We did get ours but it was a little after check in time.
