Disney & Microsoft announced this evening details of a new internet alliance. Within MSN, Disney will have it's own ISP service that would be facilitated technically by Microsoft, yet filled with Disney content. The benefit for both parties would be to compete with AOL for more subscribers. There will be built-in filters that would allow parents to control what web sites their children visit. The site seems to be targeted at families. Here's a link to the announcement:

It's worth noting that Screamscape reported the other day about a possible alliance between both parties that would give Microsoft sponsorship rights to Spaceship Earth once AT&T's contract expired. Either this is the first step toward that type of deal(although Eisner denies any further alliances)or the report was mis-interpreted in the first place.

Here's another link talking about this very subject. I am wondering what this is going to do about squelching rumors about a possible AOL/Disney merger. I would assume that this would be null and void now, unless Microsoft is using the Disney alliance to possibly scoop up and get rid of AOL once and for all???

Bill Gates & Michael Eisner, geez two heads of the same Napoleonic coin. I guess we'll get to see which one tries to devour the other.
