Is this crazy? We live in Puerto Rico and will be flying to Orlando to see Mickey at the end of April for one week. My husband used to live in Hawaii (has no family, but loves the place) He wants to fly to Hawaii for about 9 days and than back to Puerto Rico.

The prices aren't that bad for flights to Hawaii. The thing is my son can't sit still very long, especially not 15 + hours. An additional item is my ears don't handle flying very well. A tiny cold and the pain is terrible.

They have a straight flight on continental from Orlando to Houston and then Houston to Hawaii. On the way back it's also straight back from Houston to San Juan.

Any pointers? Would you subject yourself and child to all that flying.

Any particular reason you're trying to do both in one trip? I'd rather do them separately and be able to enjoy each one. Thinking how much I need a vacation to recover from WDW, I think the last thing I'd want to do is fly 15 hours.

That said, I have done each with a 3 year old. (Different children at the time 3 years old at each). We survived the trip fine, but both my kids travel well anyway. I'm not sure how agreeable she'd have been with a 15 hour travel time after a full week of WDW.

I'd do HI another time.

We have not done disney or Hawaii with son. From Puerto Rico Orlando is actually on the way.

I think would be good to do Hawaii on it's own, maybe with a few days in houston each way for a break.

He's just so desperate, it's been 7-8 years since he's been to Hawaii.

DH and I really want to take the kids to Hawaii. My 9 yo DS is a huge history buff and watches every show and reads every book on Pearl Harbor.

Though we also have a 4 yo DD who has a hard time making the 2 hour plane ride from Pittsburgh to orlando. I couldn't imagine a flight with her all the way to Hawaii. I'd be afraid, I'd strap a parachute on her and throw her out the door. ;)

We are waiting a couple more years until DD is older, but thats us. Only you know your son.

We've done both (not at the same time) with a 3yo. She's a great traveler and slept on the flights. Try breaking up the Hawaii flight with an overnight stay in Houston. Sure, it's great to just get there, but it is a long flight for a little one. He might need some time to run around, play, and sleep before getting on the plane again. Your flight back home will probably be a red eye, so everyone can sleep.

Have fun!!

ps- Stay close to a bathroom on the beach/pool if you are potty training. We were in there every 1/2 hour with our DD in Hawaii.

Sometimes he's good, sometimes I like the parachute idea. The most we've flown is about 4 hours. When he was a baby it was hard to even drive more than 15 minutes, all he did was cry. At least now he can handle about an hour drive if necessary. I actually try to schedule long drives at nap time.

I think my husband is forgetting how it can be.
