At the end of May I will be taking my son (15 months at the time) and my daughter who will turn 13 on our trip.

I started cloth diapering him about 3 or 4 months ago in the evenings after I could not find an overnight diaper that did not leak. That process lead me to building our stash and we now cloth diaper full time and love it!

But I'm wondering how much of an extra hasle it will bring to try and use them on our trip also. We are spending the first 2 nights at POP and then we move to POFQ for 7 more nights.

Part of me says disposables to not hav ethat added stress. I am already taking on this trip with both of my kids as a single parent. But then the other part says why go backwards and stop.

I'm not really sure what my true question is, I guess just wondering if anyone else has gone and stayed at a value/mod and dont cloth.

We cloth diapered and I never had the desire to do it on vacation. It's one thing to do it in my own washer where I have a sanitary cycle, but it's another to do it in a washer that others will use. Plus all the space they'd take up in the suitcase. And when we get back to the room after a day of walking around I just want to go to sleep and not have to clean the diapers.

I don't think it's a step backwards to use disposables for a week!

Just my opinion!

That is what I needed to hear!

My pocket diapers would take up so much extra room.

I recently took my 2 on a solo trip and on the drive down the youngest got car sick. When we arrived at the hotel around 7pm. I had to drag them to the laundry to start a load of laundry before we went to the room. I unloaded the car and then had to move the stuff from the wash to the dryer. Then at 9pm I had to take my 1 and 4 year old back to the laundry room to retrieve the items that wern't compeltly dry. I also got to pay $6 for the pleasure.

This experience suggested to me, that until my kids are in thier teens I will always stays somewhere with laundry in the suite!!!!

Use disposibles and skip the headache ( and smell of opening the case when you get home)

Use disposables. We just went on a cruise and it was kind of nice to not have to do laundry for a week..but then I kept thinking of all the money it cost to buy the disposables!

Thanks Ladies !

I have a rental car but I am thinking of having some diapers and wipes shipped from amazon or diapers.com.

The diapers do pack easily in your luggage, but if you think you will have them delivered, consider Garden Grocer. You could also order some food and snacks for the kids, as well as baby food.

We cloth diaper and whether or not we do it on travel depends highly on the availability of a washer/dryer. If I have no access to those, then I don't do cloth. By the time I spend the money in a pay per use machine, I could have had a package of disposables to last me.

And it is so nice to not have to carry around the bulky used diapers. It isn't environmentally friendly to the landfill--but I've already prevented so many from going there, that 1 weeks worth isn't going to be too big of a deal.

Honestly, we've traveled to Florida, California & spent 2 weeks in France, all without disposables. It really isn't a big deal. To me, yes it's a Little extra work, but worth it. I made a commitment to cloth diapers for many reasons - one of them being my child's skin, health & comfort. When traveling there are plenty of other routine changes that the child goes through. One of them did not need to be a strange disposable diaper that might give her a rash or reaction. Plus disposables tend to leak & blow out more. I've never had a blow out with cloth. If you have enough diapers, you'll probably only need to wash once. We are planning a 8 night trip this year with a day trained toddler & a 3 month old, I will be fully cd'ing the whole time. I do realize this is a little more hardcore than most, but I wanted you to know that it can be done & it doesnt need to be a headache.

I agree. We used cloth diapers (we had a service) and I used disposables when we traveled. My DD was allergic to some disposables so I still needed to pack her brand with us which was a PITB.

I also think it's a bit rude to wash cloth diapers in the resort's machines. I know that some people on the DIS do it without a qualm. However, it's not clear to me that the water gets hot enough. I certainly wouldn't want to be the next customer for that machine after a load of poopy diapers. And I am not germ phobic AT ALL.

I am curious as to why it's rude to wash CDs in the hotel washers? If all solids are shaken off, there really isn't anything left to go into the washer. It's no different than washing the underwear of a potty trained kid who has had an accident. I have washed at hotels, rental homes & while traveling in a bathtub, it never occured to be that it would be offensive.

DD CD's at home but will be using sposies in December for 10 days.

I'm ordering diapers & wipes from GardenGrocer.com to be delivered to our resort. (I'm also ordering a lot more so I'll avoid the delivery charge.)

I don't think cloth diapers are any worse than anything else that gets washed in a public washing machine. When you think of all the nasty possibilities that could be on any underclothes or other clothes put in the machine (potty training, honeymoon couple, someone with the stomach flu, menstruation), it is all pretty much YUCK. Not sure that diapers are that bad. You NEVER know what was in there before and if you want to be REALLY sure, do an empty bleach wash on the hottest setting (which probably isn't that hot in order to save money for this public machine) and cross your fingers.

If you really want to do cloth while traveling, I highly recommend bringing disposable liners. They make clean up SO easy. Imse Vimse makes some great ones. http://www.cottontailbaby.com/item_22/Flushable-Liners.htm

Have a great trip!

I am a *die-hard* cloth diaper'er. I have done cloth at Disney for many trips with my kids for the past almost 8 years, but...with my 3rd, this past trip, I brought Tushies disposables. We went in April for 10 days and I did cloth, but when we in late Sept/early Oct for 14 days, I broke down and left my cloth at home. It just wasn't fun having to run to the laundry every other day, even though it was super close to our room. Plus, the washers are so lousy. And...shortly after that April trip all my diapers I had washed there started falling apart! So, I bought the gel-free diapers and it was a great trip next time around. Don't feel bad. You are on vacation and you will be there alone? Don't add more work for yourself. :goodvibes

We use Flip diapers at home and they make disposable inserts for them. This is what we plan to use when we go to Disneyland/ beach for 6 days in May. The covers will wash well enough in the sink or tub. I wouldn't buy them just for a trip, but if someone is starting or adding to a stash, we love our Flips. We use the cloth inserts at home but used the disposable ones for a day trip and it worked great. It isn't as eco-friendly as full cloth, but they are a LOT less waste than regular disposables and I believe have less chemicals in them. We do use a hemp stuffed Bum Genius at night and I haven't totally decided what to do about that. I am not sure about going 5 nights without washing those. Maybe a rinse would be okay until we get home- only using each one once, obviously! They should just be peed on. Anyone with experience with that?

The difference, IMO, is that those are all things that are unplanned (except for possibly the honeymooners :cool1:) and not something like intentionally bringing cloths diapers you know will get poopy and need to be washed. Don't get me wrong, I *LOVED* using cloth diapers while at home but we used Tushies when on the road.

We cloth diaper at home, but I don't on vacation.
It can be done, but I just don't mind using disposables for a few days.

For 5 nights, as a one time thing, I think you could get away with a good rinse in the toilet or sink. I would wring them out as much as possible before storing them on a wet bag for travel home. They'll be heavy if they are too wet. I think having a system that works for night & is dependable is worth bringing. I'm glad to hear you like the flip, I haven't tried it yet, but may with baby #2. The disposable inserts for travelling sound like a happy medium.
