Disney and a infant..

So like 10 minutes ago I decided that wife and I will be taking our son (when he gets here, due the 22nd of this month), to Disney next year...it will be a short 2-3 day trip. Sam will be just over a year old at that point. Do you think this is a good idea? I remember being 5 when I first went to Disney in the early 70s....is this to young? Has anyone else taken a infant there? Any help, replies, would be greatly appreciated!

DS's first trip was at 9 months old. It was great! He loved it, we loved it. And we keep taking him back.

Our first trip to Disney we took our daughters who were 4 and just turned 1 the week before. I thought it was great my daughter loved all the colors and lights. I also think that the stimulation of going on trips and experiancing new things helps children learn. So just look at it as a way to make Sam even smarter. For our trips we never stayed in the parks to late we got there pretty early too. Our daughter just napped in their strollers we did not go back to the hotel, I know some people swear by it but that just seemed to inconvinient. Also If you make a list of what you can do with Sam and what you might not be able to so that your expectaions do not excede reality. That being said I think that little one can to like 85% of the attaractions and since it will be a short trip you probably wont even get to all of that anyway so I say go and have a ball with Sam. Also my daughter loved the characters, espeasially there noses.

Both of my daughters went for their first trip at about 18 months. Both enjoyed the lights and bright colors. I think it's fine to bring them at that age.
Plus they are free!!

As you can see by my signature, both of my girls went @ young ages. My oldest had gone five times by the time she turned three. My youngest has gone twice and just turned one.

In some ways it is easier to go with an infant. They are not as likely to wander off or stop walking when distracted.

And what better way to introduce your children to wonder and imagination than to visit the professionals.

Just be sure to keep him hydrated if going during a warm time of the year. The heat and extra activity can take a lot out of a little tyke and he may not be quite able to tell you that he is thirsty.

For those who say he is too young, well it is their loss. My greatest joy is watching my princesses exploring and experiencing Disney as they grow up. It is such a great experience to see the wonderment and excitement when your child sees Cinderella, or Buzz, or Balou for the first time in real life. Truly magical.

Don't forget the child swap! This is for rides that are not appropriate for small children. One Adult rides while the other stays with the baby. When the first adult is done they simply swap, the second gets to ride without waiting on line again.

Just ask the cast member at the entrance to the ride about baby swap. Each ride handles it a little differently so be sure to ask.

We have taken our kids when they were very young and it is is a different kind of trip since you are a bit more at the whim of the baby. But they are quite portable at that age.
My advice would be go during a slow/cooler time. We took our son in early June the first time and it was so hot- he was just miserable. We spent alot of time in the AC, especially the rocking chairs in the baby center. But that left my DH and other 2 kids to fend for themselves. Next time we took a young one we went in late January and what a difference! We had such a fun time.

No matter what you do you will still have some wonderful memories.

Oh I know how it is when its hot...so we are thinking August/Sep time frame....maybe even Oct. We only plan on doing a few days so we won't be spending alot of time at the "World", but any time is good time IMHO. Thanks!

Our youngest grandson was 8 months during his first WDW trip. He had a great time with the characters and all the noise around him. His eyes were looking everywhere. Daughter just made sure he had his naps whether in the stroller or back at the room. He's bookd again May 07 for his second trip.

Mom Mom had a good time having him in Disney too..

We took our son when he was 8 months old. Didn't regret it at all. Don't forget about the baby care stations. They are wonderful.

When we first brought our DS, he was one. Some people said "but he'll never remember this trip" and I said with a smile "well it is notfor him this time, but he'll have the photos!"
I love WDW at any time. It is a slower pace vacation with a little one, but still jam packed with magical memories!

my neice's other grandmother took her there when she was 3. she had fun, but the only bad thing about it? it's been 9 years since that first trip and she doesn't remember any of it.

We have taken DS since he was fairly young and although he may not remember everything, we have a blast watching him as he discovers new things. As long as you know all his limitations and take it easy, you shouldn't have any problems.
