I honestly don't see your complaint- if it's not mutually beneficial with current prices don't buy any more points. Or are you saying the limits to pool hopping, and valet parking changes have now made 15 year old $50 points no good either?
We got sub $50 points back in the day- if i recall our our incentive was a pile of extra points and a discount/pt (at the time i thought they were giving it away). I think we made our money back in like 4-6 years- literally- way back then i kept track of what the accommodations would have cost compared to what we have paid. Once it became totally lopsided for us i just stopped keeping track. since breakeven we've gotten tens of thousands of dollars worth of accommodations for a fraction of that price in annual dues.
As an example- in addition to our DVC I'm grabbing a cabin at FW for an upcoming trip for my family of 5. It's like $500 a night. Figure out what the annual fee would be on the points needed for even a studio- it's a fraction of that. You can get a 1 bedroom and it's still less. Probably for a 2 bedroom and even a villa at an older resort. Sorry i dont have the numbers handy- as i said i dont even need to keep track anymore- i just know i'm way in front of them.
I've NEVER factored in ticket, shopping, dining, etc discounts into my savings- it's all just a bonus for us.
Would i buy today with the cost per point and the number of points needed for newer resorts? I dont know that i would. But if they can get someone to pay then why wouldn't they.
