Disney Alex & Ani bangles?

None of the Alex and Anis are real metals-it is all refurbished scrap metals-that's the point of their company- the whole recycle thing.

Linda

I'm just curious but what do you mean by "not real metals"?
A&A bracelets are made with metal. :confused3

To the pp who asked about allergies. A&A have different finishes and they are made with various metal types so if you are interested I would contact the company directly and ask them about what ones they use in what finishes.
They do say on their website that the shiny silver and shiny gold may contain nickel. The Russian silver and gold are plated over a brass base. They don't detail what they use, but I'm sure if you contact them with your concern they would give you the info.

I have a strange question regarding these bracelets. I have metal allergies, so are the silver bracelets Sterling Silver or Stainless Steel, or are they just a silver overlay? I'd really like one if they are SS or Stain. Steel.

The older I get the less tolerate I have become to anything that isn't SS or 14kt gold :( I'll be at WDW tomorrow & I have my eye out for either finish. I figure if I react to them I can eBay them pretty easily.

Excerpt from their website ( http://www.alexandani.com/our-story/ ):

The Alex and Ani aesthetic underscores the idea that what is pure and natural is most beautiful and creating jewelry from recycled materials enriches the beauty of each piece. Founder and creative designer Carolyn Rafaelian embraces a philosophy that is based upon using eco-friendly, recycled materials made entirely in the United States. Because of this, Alex and Ani is able to purchase metals from local mills who have received recycled scraps from refineries, which in turn, use those pieces and sell their scraps back to the Mills.

If they are recycled scrap metal, and some weird blend at that, why are they so expensive for a thick wire and a little machine-stamped fob? Are they all like that? Is it some silly status symbol to see how many you can wear, like the silly bands kids wore? Do people tally up how many you have on or something?

They offer many different jewelry designs. And while I can't speak for the WDW prices; on their website they appear to run $28-$32. Not bad considering the company appears to be very charitable & they are eco-friendly.

I certainly wouldn't compare these to a child's silly bands. I wear what I like, if you consider someone stacking a few meaningful ones a status symbol then count away!:hippie:

i'm going in 5 days and i am staying at AOA in which their store carries them. was it really that difficult to find ANY of the bracelets? i really wanted to be able to pick one up..hopefully i still can

Found this a while ago online somewhere..going in 5 days and also really wanted to find them myself..Good luck!

They are also made in America. :)

Well I really don't know how to answer that other than saying -because they can be-they caught on and people are buying-they are not SS or gold.Like I said they are recycled metals.

Yes people stack them and the meanings are different for everyone- I only have one, a breast cancer one that was a gift.

A booming company out of Cranston RI, good for them but not my cup of tea.My DDs 21 and 19 have several and the stack them.

Thanks for the info - for that ridiculous price, not my cup of tea either. It's probably about $1 worth of scrap metal. I guess I just don't get the need to have multiple, expensive, plain metal circles with little tags hanging off of them? My cousin has an armful, and I didn't realize they were that expensive. I guess one could recycle them again when the fad fades away?

Well there really isn't a need for it, it is purely a want. While it may not be your cup of tea, its hardly just scrap metal, it is a piece of well made jewelry and IMO not overly expensive all.

Have you stopped to consider how much anything you own is really 'worth'? I just think this is a silly way to look at what accessories one decides to purchase. If you want to be cheap about it, there are some good tutorials online for making your own.

I definitely saw them this morning in the jewelry case at Mouse Gears in Epcot, and I think I saw them at the jewelry store on Main St a few days ago.

I love them. I bought the castle one last year. :)

Amazing how judgmental people get just because something isn't to their liking. I'm sure there are things the generalized you collect or like that someone else would find silly or stupid. How would you feel if someone flat out said they were silly or stupid to you?

I happen to like the bracelets. I only have one currently, Red Sox, and have a wish list of others I want that represent things that have meaning to me - Disney, the Boston skyline, my DDs zodiac sign or birthstone, etc.

I got my silver castle back in January at the shop by Tower of Terror/Fantasmic (on the left if you're walking away from ToT/RnR). It was our last day and after scouring literally every single shop, we finally found it. At the time there were plenty of gold Mickeys and Minnies, but we didn't see any castles or anything silver until our last day. I had asked a CM at World of Disney about them and she said they just put them out when they received them and have no control over when the shipments come (like they can't order any more).

The day they suddenly appeared everywhere was a Tuesday if that helps (though I have no idea if that's shipment day or whatnot). In January they were out on the spinny racks with the other jewelry, but when we were in DL in April they were behind glass. Good luck!

Unveiled at D23, maybe? This was 5 days ago and said coming soon. Personally I have no interest in the other Disney designs, but I LOVE these!

Whoa, sorry for huge! I don't know how to resize with IMG codes :(

I saw these on ebay and they did say D23 in the lisiting so I think so.
I wonder what coming soon means, I'll be there in just under 2 weeks and would love one of these.

I just want a silver Castle (WDW) and maybe that new one that's coming out with the filigree design.
