Day 1....We were scheduled to leave from New York's Penn Station at 3:15pm and of course the train was delayed. The kids were anxious as they were running around and wrestling. Can someone point me to the nearest bar? LOL. We left at 4pm. I was getting myself ready for the long train ride to Orlando (21 hours). No sooner than I am trying to settle down. Here they go. The 2 yr old grandson and the 9 yr old son, can I have a sandwich, can I have a sandwich? My goodness, we didn't even get through the tunnel to New Jersey yet. I knew this was going to be a long ride.
Well they finally settled down after a sandwich and watch a few movies and they fell asleep. I managed to get to the bar car and order a white wine and try to settle down. We watched The Hangover and laughed through the whole thing to a point where a couple of people asked if they could watch it. Well suffice it to say, thank goodness mom packed the queen sized blankets because it was cold as I don't know what on that train. I managed to get some sleep and woke up and ate breakfast and was dying to get off the train.
We arrived at Orlando at 1pm. Wow we actually got on time. I guess its because the motorman was hauling you know what during the night. We took a van from the train station to AKL. It was $35.00 and that wasn't bad at all. We were given room 2331 in the Arusha section. You have to take the elevator down one flight because the lobby is on the third floor. We have a great view and mom, daughter and the kids were happy. We unpacked and did a quick tour of the hotel.
We took a bus to Downtown Disney for a few until dinner at 5pm. We walked around and then got back on the bus. We arrived at Boma at 5:10 when I had a 5pm reservation. It was no problem at all. Not only that, I had the reservation for 2ad and 2ch. I had another adult and we were seated without any problems. So if any one has added on anyone to their ressies, no problem. Everyone enjoyed their meal at Boma and Mom and the kids settled in for the night.
My daughter and I went back to DTD. I bought Cigars from Sosa family Cigars for my bosses. We then went to House of Blues for a couple of Margaritas. Those were good. My daughter wanted cigarettes so we decided to go to the Hess gas station across Buena Vista blvd. Sosa wanted $10 and Hess wanted $5. You do the math. LOL. We got back on the bus and went back to the hotel. We settled in for the night and watched some of the animals from the balcony. It is amazing how the have it illuminated to look like a full moon each night. We didn't get the night vision goggles but we can still see them.
I must say that this is a beautiful hotel. It is kind of dark but that is how the ambiance is supposed to be.
Next day....Chef Mickeys, Magic Kingdom and the Fireworks Dessert Party.
Well on to day two....we were up by 7am. Well I was. I decided to spend some quiet time on the balcony and observe the animals resting. Ah...peace and quiet. It was so lovely. One by one, everyone decided to get up. We had a 9:30am ressie for Chef Mickeys. We took the bus to MK and then the Monorail to the contemporary. This is where my mom wants to stay. Wait wasn't long and we proceeded to eat. So you know Mickey and the gang comes around while you are eating. Well lets just say my 2 yr old grandson, Tristan loved Mickey and Minnie also Goofy but for some reason was terrified of Pluto. Oh yeah he loved Donald too.
He would take pictures with all but Pluto and when we asked him to take a picture he was shaking his head and replying...UH UH NO TAKE PICTURE. LMAO.
After breakfast we get on the monorail to MK when as soon as we leave, my daughter JaQuanna says she left her $300 Versace shades. So after riding the monorail full circle back to the Contemporary, you know we didn't find them. Someone is a very happy person. Anyhoo....we go to MK and take in the scene of the Castle which has a big crane behind it. I guess they are doing some sort of renovation. First stop was the first aid station. JQ needed bandaids for her shoes. Seemed like anyone who went in there needed bandaids for their feet, albeit Crocs, Sneakers or Flipflops.
We go towards Frontierland and Adventureland. Get on Aladdins Carpet..they loved it. Pirates of the Carribean....Tristan was terrified but he lived. My son Idris loved the Haunted Mansion. JaQuanna and I got on Splash Mountain and then we took turns getting on Thunder Mountain Railroad.
OMG it was so hot out. It was brutal. We definitely had to take some time out finding shade to get away from the heat. We went to get on Peter Pan after getting on ITs a small world. Can someone tell me why is it that Peter Pan always has a 60 minute wait time. I just don't get it. Kids were crying, restless and getting on my nerves. I wanted to cry with them.
After that we got on the carousel and decided to eat at Rays Starlight Cafe. It was ok. We rode Buzz Lightyear and then went into the Monsters Inc Laugh factory. When we exited, it was thundering and lightening and I was dreading the fireworks being cancelled. We went over to check in for the Fireworks Dessert Party and they let us in at 8pm. Wishes was at 9pm. They said they never cancelled the Fireworks and that they would go on as scheduled. We were seated at out table and then proceeded to partake in one of the most fabulous dessert buffets ever. The chocolate covered strawberries were to die for and there were plenty for everyone. I especially loved the brownies. JQ loved the Mango shooters and Creme Brulee. Idris loved the fruit and Mom the cookies. They had coffee, tea, milk, and unsweetened Ice tea...yuck. It was still raining and Wishes went on as scheduled. The only this is that Tinkerbell didn't fly down :-( We headed to the buses and I had my workout. Carrying my grandson all the way to the bus stop for he slept through the fireworks and all. I managed to get a seat and had Tristan on one lap and Idris on the other. Wish I could have had someone take a picture of it. LOL
I carried him to the room....the 2 yr old. And settled the kids down for the night. I had to go to the gift shop because my mom almost fell at the Desert Party because it was so slippery and she managed to keep her balance but twist her back instead. She took some Advil and she is asleep so her activities now is day by day.
We had a 9:50 ressie for Tusker House. We weren't seated until 10:40. For some reason, they had numerous reservations for the same time. One group was arguing because somehow their reservation was cancelled and there were two birthdays they were celebrating. Don't know how that ended.
Well we were seated in the back and I must say that it is larger than the previous location in Dinosaur land. Food was good as usual. Well let me backtrack and say that I was the runner, as usual and managed to get fast passes for Expedition Everest while they waited for the table. I must have lost 10 pounds in water retention. My goodness it was hot out. And humid as heck. So I came back soaked and wet and was dying to get in the air conditioning and Tusker house was a relief.
We took pictures with Mickey, Goofy, Donald and Daisy. Minnie was a no show. LOL. It was fun. I had 4 fast passes but Mom decided that there was no way she was getting on. LOL so JaQuanna got on twice. Once with me and once with her brother, Idris. Best ride in Disney IMHO.
We saw Festival of the Lion King which they all loved. Finding Nemo which JaQuanna thought it was corny, Mom couldn't see because we were in the back. Idris and I liked it. I asked him if he wanted to see it on Broadway like the Lion King. He said no. I guess he didn't like it too much. LOL
We walked around a lot and had more fast passes for EE where this time all three of us got on the same time. I gave the extra one to the guy who rode with JQ. It was raining so we left and headed to DTD which was an adventure in itself. The line back to AKL was too long so smarty me decided to get on the Contemporary bus. Which went to Polynesian then Contemporary. Jumped off that bus onto the DTD bus. We went to Earl of Sandwich where JQ and I had the Jerk Chicken Sandwich. Wasn't the best and it was funny that a surveyor was there because she let them have it. Idris had the Pizza which he liked. We then walked toward McDonalds and stopped at my favorite watering hole.....the Margarita Stand. Bought one for me and JQ. Mom thinks were are lushes. LOL.
Idris stopped at Legoland while I sat and watched in the rain drinking my margarita sitting in a Disney poncho. The rest ventured to McDonalds where they were harrassed by a bird, crane?, who wanted French Fries. Went to world of Disney and looked around. Got back on the bus to AKL and here I am in a need of a drink. Want to beat the boys silly. Guess they ate too many cookies. They are crazed.
Ok where did I leave off? Oh on the end of day 3, we were at AK. After dropping the kids off, I had a few margaritas at the bar with JaQuanna until 12midnight. That is when the bar closes.
Day 4----Hollywood Studios....woke up at 8am. Took our time and went down to Mara for breakfast. It was ok. Could have been better. We went to the pool until 2pm. Glad we did because it was so hot out. Tristan was afraid to get in the water until we put him in the kiddie pool..lol. Mom was upstairs luxuriating. Quiet time for her.
We all showered and changed and headed for Hollywood Studios. We had a 4pm ressie for Hollywood and Vine. Must I say that was one of the best buffets we had. We didn't get on many attractions. We managed to get on the Great movie ride and the kids got their faces painted. So I decided at 630pm to head for tower of terror. I saw this long line. I knew this wasn't for tower of terror, it was for Fantasmic. What the heck? I have never seen a line form so early for an 830pm show. I heard that the two shows on Tuesday were cancelled. I don't know how true that was. Well on the line we went. We managed to get front row seats. Mom was why we gotta see this show? What is it a laser show? LMAO
Well JaQuanna got restless and left to use her FP for tower of terror. At 815 it started raining a little and everyone was like uh oh. START THE SHOW, START THE SHOW....I had two buds in the process so I was good. Screaming kids all over the place begging for the lighting toys. OMG.
AFter the show....Mom loved it. She said it was worth the wait. I TOLD YA.....
So we head back to the hotel and put the kids to bed. I went to the gift shop and bought me a bathing suit and a cover up. Afterwards I went to the Bar for the nightly margarita. Was in bed by 12midnight.
Part 5.....Epcot
Today was Epcot day. We left the hotel about 1030am and headed to Epcot. Well by time we got there, it was time for lunch. Went to the Land and had lunch. It was good.
oh oh let me backtrack to last night. ARMADILLO SIGHTING. Getting off the bus walking to the lobby of the hotel. I was wondering what the holdup was and what do you know, he was walking across to the bushes. It was like he was a star and we were paparazzi. Lightbulbs going off. Wow a armadillo here? Others responded, it is the animal kingdom lodge....LOL.
Back to today....We went on Finding Nemo. Mom loved that. Then Talk Turtle with Crush....I think the parents loved it more. They went on Soaring. They gave it a lukewarm review.
They went on Test Track. JQ loved it. Mom said it reminded her of the Bobsled at Coney Island.
The kids and I went on Mission Space. Yep I got on the green...less intense. Thank god. Thought I was going to heave. The kids thought it sucked.
We loved the new version of Spaceship Earth. It was funny at the end. After the attractions, we had a 6pm ressie for the Garden Grill. Yes it rotates and I noticed it. The food wasn't all that great and the Chef must have known because he came out and asked if everything was ok. LOL. The dessert was left untouched. We are not plans of blueberries and whipped cream. The character interaction was great though.
AFter dinner, we walked around the world. The kids loved the trains. Well the Tequila Bar was not open...it does not open until tomorrow--8/29. But we did get a Blue Patron Margarita at the stand. Boy was it good. So good we didn't want to throw it away so we stood closer to the entrance to watch Illumination and then made the mad dash for the bus. Thank goodness we were the first stop. You should have seen me and Mom trying to hop over the chains.
Today was back to the Magic Kingdom. We had a 830 am ressie for Crystal Palace. Winnie, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet was there to entertain the kids. Everyone loved the food and the Character interaction was great. After breakfast we decided to hit the attractions we didn't do the other day.
First off to Fantasyland and to the Winnie the Pooh ride. They loved it. Then it was the Teacups. I skipped that one. I don't particularly care for spinning around after eating. We did the racetrack in Tomorrowland and then off to Mickeys Toontown Fair which we all loved. Did more shopping and shipped it to the room.
We took the train to Splash Mountain and walked over to the Hall of Presidents. We all loved it. Tristan got tired so he, Mom and JQ went back to the hotel. Idris and I stayed. We went on the racetrack twice. Back on the Monsters Inc Laugh Floor. It was very funny this time. We did Stitch and he was tired of the Buzz Lightyear ride. We walked around and window shopped until it was time for the Spectromagic Parade. Loved it as usual. Then onto Wishes. Idris fell asleep on the ground while I watched. Tinkerbell flew. YAY!
It was a tiring day but memorable and can't wait til next year.
Day 7----House of Blues Gospel Brunch
Today was a surprise for my mom. Gospel Brunch at the House of Blues.
We arrived about 20 minutes late but no worries. We were seated on the ground floor with 3 lovely ladies from Boston. We had a wonderful time and the food was great. Omelets made to order, cheese grits and potatoes. Then for the lunch portion I had Mac and Cheese, Chicken Jumbalaya, Catfish and red beans with rice. Oh yeah and a Mimosa.
We then stopped along and window shopped and I made an appointment with the DVC. We went to the world of disney where I made my last minute purchases. We rode back to the hotel and rode over to Kidani Village. We are now DVC members. YAY! So we will definitely be back next year.
We came back to the room and proceeded to wash clothes. The laundry was conveniently located right around the corner. We then went to Boma for dinner and had a great time.
We will do AK in the morning and then HS for a bit before coming back to the hotel at 6pm for our 7:30pm train ride home.
This is the last day at Disney and frankly I was a litle sad but know I will be back next yearn
We woke up early since check out time is 11am. We had breakfast at Boma which was good. Did our last minute shopping. We got 5 - $15 gift cards for joining the Disney Vacation Club...more on that later. Packed all our gear and had the bellhop come and store the luggage. We had 11 bags. Mind you we came with 7. LOL
We went to Animal Kingdom and did the Safari Ride, Jungle Trek and the other animal walkthrough trek. THey did the Rapids while I waited with the grandson and he got soaked in the fountains. We walked over to Expedition Everest where JQ, Idris and I did the ride 3 times in a row. Going as a single rider helped. We left Animal Kingdom and went to Hollywood Studios.
We did Tower of Terror and Rock n Roller Coaster. It was so dang hot out so we went back to the hotel to eat and then use our remaining credits. Lets just say we came out with 3 bags of food and snacks. We always forget to use all the snacks. LOL
We had a wonderful time and this is a unforgettable trip.
