Hi to anyone who can make me feel a little better about this. We are going on our 3rd Disney Cruise in one month, and I just got my air information. I'm not very happy!!

Our last 2 cruises, we used Disney air and got direct flights. This trip we are stopping in Atlanta, changing planes, and have an extra 1 1/2 hours till we leave for Orlando.

Has anyone else experienced this unpleasant news? How did it go? I'm a little worried about my baggage not making it on the plane in Atlanta. (can just see it now, dining in my sweats at formal night, because I have nothing else to wear!) I'm so nervous as it is now about flying, I ought to be an absolute basket case by the time I finally get to the ship!

Thanks for listening!

Unfortunately that can happen with Disney. I have to do the air myself, because I need to be in control of our itinerary. Disney doesn't set the air portion up until about a month before departure, so I don't think there are very many choices left. On the other hand, sometimes later can get you a better fare. Good luck and I hope it all goes well. I' ve done flights w/ 4 legs to them and have always gotten my luggage just fine.

1 1/2 hours is a reasonably long layover to allow your luggage to make the connection. I wouldn't worry much unless the layover was less than an hour.

We're also from CT and booked air through DCL. We did, however, get a direct flight. Did you look on your own to see if there is a direct flight? Maybe there isn't one available. I know we were worried because our TA told us DCL tries to take the direct flight but there aren't so many these days. When is your trip? Is it too late to book flight on your own with transportation add-on? Our trip is 2/9/2002 and our flight is @ 7:00 am out of BDL. We have to be at the airport BEFORE 5:00 am. May be opting to bring ingredients for Mimosa's to make the time pass quicker. FIL also has a portable DVD player he is bringing. Can watch a movie in the time we will be waiting.

Thanks everyone for your help calming me down.

Kim:

We are going on 2/16 and get this!! Our flight out of New York is at 6:00am, so that means we have to leave for the airport between 2:00 and 3:00 am! I'm going to explore other avenues, but I'm afraid at this point it may be too late. Dreams, who is my travel agent said I could change the flight, but it would be a $50.00 per person fee, plus whatever extra the airline charges. Sounds to me like more money than I really want to spend! A night at a hotel by the airport is probably what we are going to do. For sure now I'm going to start searching for air on my own for the trip I have booked already for 2003!

Dave:

Thanks for making me feel better about the luggage, just the flying alone has me nervous, but having your luggage moved from plane to plane almost has me over the edge. I've experienced the lost luggage before, fortunately it was on the return portion of that trip. I don't know what we would do for 7 days with only what we were wearing?

I'll really be ready for one of those tropical drinks after this nightmare of a travel day! :D

Hi moocow. We are on your cruise and leaving from New York. We have a direct flight out of Kennedy at 10ish on JetBlue. (That is on Friday). I know that Southwest also added some new flights on Friday and Saturday from MacArthur on L.I. (Don't know how far north in CT you are.) Hope this is helpful. See you on the cruise!:)

Hi Mumph39!

Thanks for your response! I wish we could leave on Friday, as I can't take my daughter out of school. Are you doing air on your own? I heard that Jet Blue was a good airline. We may have to do that for 2003. I see your going to be on that cruise with us as well! I wonder if I could get a direct flight out of JFK? We are in Norwalk, basically the same distance to either New York airport. I'll email dreams and see if there is any chance.

Thanks for the info and see you on the cruise!!

Robin :smooth:

Yes, we booked our own air. Had originally done it through Disney. Was too expensive and wanted a direct flight. I've heard great things about JetBlue as well. Plus, the kids are excited about the video games at their seats. We usually fly out of MacArthur (great airport...small), but after 9/11 they cancelled all the good flights (later than 6 a.m.). They only reinstated them recently, oh well. Good luck on your quest!

We always book our own flights. Southwest always has rates significantly below other airlines and Disney doesn't work with them I am told. Last trip it cost us $625 round trip from Phoenix to Orlando for a family of four using Southwest's internet offers. Most I have ever paid is $825. Don't know if they can work for you but we have saved a bundle flying them whenever we go to Disneyworld or the cruise which is very often.
