i recently had emergency abdominal surgery and am scheduled for a trip at the end of February/ First week of March. Has anyone ever done WDW about a month post surgery? I know I'll be taking things a lot slower, but looking for tips.

what dose your Dr say I would ask him/her if there are any rides you should not do.

but I do agree if you do go you will want to take things slower.

if you are saying at a Disney resort there are a lot of things to do there even waching some of the activities around the pool can be fun ( and you do not even have to go swimming)

listen to your body if your body is telling you to stop then stop rest ( first aid can be a great place if you only need a 30-45 minute rest.

I do not know if walking will affect you but I would have a few number of ECV venders incase you need them.

I think it would be best to talk to your doctor. There are many different levels of emergency abdominal surgery and what might be fine for one person might not be for another. I had emergency surgery in December to remove my gallbladder. It was done laparoscopically and the doc lifted all physical restrictions just one week after the surgery. I felt really good by about 4 days post surgery. In contrast, I had my appendix out about 20 years ago. That was not done laparoscopically and recovery took a few weeks instead of a few days.

Whatever your Dr. and you agree on. Personally, I had 'no' desire to go on 'any' trip 4 weeks post abdominal surgery, especially Disney.

I agree. But I had the opposite experience. I had my gallbladder out (laparoscopic) and ended up off work for 4 months (complications). I had an emergency appendectomy (open not laparoscopic) while at Disney and went to Epcot 2 days later. But I just went to dinner and Candlelight Procession - no rides.

I would expect that fatigue will be your biggest issue.

My DH had his appendix out (laproscopic) in an emergency surgery 4 weeks before a Disneyland trip in 2015. He was totally ok on the trip and the dr ok'd him to go (he was only out of work for a week). He skipped the really bumpy jerky rides (ie btmrr, space man, etc), but he was fine with the walking, the other rides, energy level, etc.

This is exactly why the question is so difficult to answer. Two people, same operations, two totally different recovery experiences. I wasn't even out of the hospital from my open appendectomy for 3 days. There's no way I would have been in any shape to go to Epcot two days post surgery.

I have had the same surgery 5 times and all 5 times my recover was anything from I was ok that day to it took me 3 weeks to do anything. so yes you are very right.

Thank you everyone for your experiences! Just what I was looking for. I've been cleared to go by my doctor tonight just need to take it slow and avoid any tighter lap bar rides.

In the end it is going to be what you feel like doing. If you are tired - rest. If you need a mobility assist like an ECV or wheelchair - use it. And you probably won't know what you need until you get there.
