What are the chances of Disney After Hours being extended? I haven't heard much about it since it was announced and first opened. I know it didn't do as well as Disney expected, but I'm intrigued. I wonder whether they'll keep it going during the summer and possibly during the Christmas season, when it'd be VERY in demand.

Nobody knows what will happen next.

They haven't announced it yet, so I'm guessing they aren't doing it. But I've been wrong about everything, so maybe I'm wrong about this.

I hope they put it into July. We have to go to Orlando for family reasons, and DAH would be perfect for my heat-detesting wife and kids. But I'm guessing not.

I actually emailed Disney and asked this question, since I would love to experience it during my trip in September. They replied that nothing is scheduled as of yet, but that could always change if there is a demand for it. So I would suggest emailing them! If they see enough people are interested, they may extend it!

I'll be honest - I hated the idea when it was announced (mostly because it hinted at the end of the EMHs) but after seeing how empty the park is, it's definitely something I'd pay for during Christmas week.

I think it would be REALLY hard to do during the party season. You've got at least two parties a week, plus EMHs.

If I had my preference, WDW would do it all the time -- have permanent park closing at 10 and then have the chance to buy the DAH ticket for 7-1. You could even swap it for one of your Park Hopper days. But I don't think that's happening.

No - it'd be during Christmas week (the party ends 12/19.) They cut down on EMHs last year. I remember there being two late nights at MK in the past (12/30 and a day or two after Xmas) but last year it was just 12/30. The park is already very crowded on 12/30, so it didn't do much to alleviate the crowds. It didn't ruin our trip by any means, but it didn't allow for us to do as much as we normally do.

Yea and WDW would love it if more guests like you also wanted it all the time - take the extra money and remove hours that historically have been part of regular park ticket. The more of us that simply accept increased costs to us by WDW, the more they will run them.

no, the more guests like me who see WDW as a value in the current things they offer, the more chances well have to have unique and fun park experiences. The less I dwell on what used to be the norm (or what I wish/think Disney used to do) and focus on the potential positives of the now, the better chance I have of enjoying the park for what it is.

so there is more value and positives to paying more for the same or less experience?

As opposed to seeing something WDW offers and complaining that it used to be free and pouting and stamping my foot until WDW does what i want it to? Except it's not really the same because while the crowds may have thinned late, there was no real guarantee thy would?

Yeah, I think there's a lot of value in knowing the crowds will be insanely small rather than hoping they're just reduced. And there's value in seeing something WDW offers and deciding -- independent of the past or other experiences--whether it's a good deal for my family. Seven (or even 4) to 2 seems to be a good deal, especially when the crowds are forcibly reduced for the last three hours.

It doesn't matter what they've done in the past, all that matters on a go forward is what they are doing now. And if you think that if DAH fails, WDW will just stay open later as a reparation for trying something and it not working, I think you'll end up disappointed.

Yes! I've been saying the same thing to all these folks that moan about the change in hours. They are always going on the assumption MK would be open till 1 or 2 am if it wasn't for DAH. I don't see that. Maybe they have before, and folks loved it because it wasn't crowded. Well, that's just the very reason they may no longer want to open that late. It's not busy enough so they think it's not necessary.

Hope it gets back to the summer hours they had last year (MK closing at midnight), plus EMH through 2am. Did that last July and it felt the same as the descriptions I've read of DAH. There were no crowds, almost non-existent lines (met A&E in 10 minutes, etc.) And it was free for all onsite guests. We're talking last year, not a decade ago, so wanting them to stick with those hours is perfectly reasonable.

Well to be technical it wasn't "free", it was included in the price you pay for your resort room. Which IIRC almost everyone here complains about being too high, even with a discount :)

So, now when WDW offers DAH off-site guests get to experience something that they couldn't before.

Why should a business give away for free a product that some of its customers are willing to pay extra for???

Our kids are a big young for the late nights (they would still get up at normal time regardless the next morning) but this might be something we consider doing in the future if it sticks around in some form or fashion. While the price is a bit high, I think of it like buying 3 airline seats when you only need 2 for your party. The extra seat costs $$ but gives you a whole different experience in terms of space and comfort for the trip.

The last party is December 22 this year.
