Happy Summer!

I am looking for some suggestions from my fellow Dis-Addicts for some summer reading books that are Disney oriented. It's been my summer summer tradition to get a new book and read it at the beach to kick-start the excitement for our upcoming Spring WDW Vacations... Two summers ago I read Mousejunkies and REALLy liked it, last summer I read Hidden Magic. I loved Mousejunkies and thoroughly enjoyed reading it... I still pick it up from time to time to reread or reference it. Even DH has read it many times!

:surfweb: Besides the usual Frommers, Passporters, Birnbaums, Unofficial, and Idiot Guides (I have read all of those and could probably write my own at his point....) Does anyone have any suggestions out there? :wizard:

A couple of recommendations:

Spinning Disney's World by Charles Ridgway. He was a press agent for Disney starting at DL, and moving along with the company as it headed east. Fascinating, easy read, not a whole lot about WDW , (there is one part near the end, if I recall correctly), but still worth a read. Company loyalist all the way, not critical of Disney at all.

Realityland by David Koenig. More "behind the scenes" type stuff about WDW specifically, from its earliest development onward. A good read, but he doesn't pull any punches--if there is something critical, he says it. While not completely anti-Disney, it definitely isn't the lovefest the former book is.

Any of the WDW trivia books by Lou Mongello. There are at least 2..Fun for the whole family!

I just finished "Walt Before Mickey". It was the most detailed account of the early years that I've ever read!

Walt Disney: An American Original by Bob Thomas

It's a biography on Walt's live. I found his story fascinating. His dedication and drive was amazing and though he says it all started with a mouse, it really all started with him. Strongly suggest!

Thanks for the advice... I saw a few of those on the Borders list when I searched Walt Disney or Disney World... besides the hundreds of travel books. I ended up ordering two: One value priced from Ebay: WALT DISNEY WORLD LUXURY GUIDE Book By Cara Goldsbury and one from Borders on the business perspective of WDW business and inspiring leaders - LESSONS FROM THE MOUSE by Dennis Snow.

I am starting a new job this fall and I thought the 2nd would come in handy. And the other - Well, just because! For $4.99 I'll read anything Disney! I'm still looking forward to hearing about other Disney books that have been read by other Dis-addicts out there... I'll have to look up the Disney After Dark series - sounds great, too. :woohoo:

CREATING MAGIC: 10 Common Sense Leadership Strategies from a Life at Disney by Lee Cockerell is next on my list!

Now I just have to decide and talk my husband into a new (to us) car or a DVC... A New Car... DVC... DVC..... DVC!! :rolleyes1

"How to be like Walt" is a business book but an excellent read. I found myself crying in restraunts reading some of the stories told by those who knew Walt. Especially the story of how Walt would put all his money into his craft. He once was found on a box eating canned beans barefoot because he didn't have money to get shoes out of the cobblers shop.

I also love the Kingdom Keepers series. It is considered to be a young adult series, but this old lady really likes them. Kind of like a mystery that is centered in the actual Walt Disney World parks.

I'm reading The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World by Susan Veness. It tells of some of the stories behind each of the attractions. I'm enjoying it a lot!:thumbsup2

Just stumbled onto this thread - I'm an avid reader, but haven't read any of these! Gonna put them on my list now - thanks!

By far the best 2 "adult" books mentioned so far, in my opinion, are theMouseJunkies... they read fast and keep your attention. The humor in it makes it fun to read and you can really relate to the writer. The "real world" advise and insight is certainly a plus as well.

I cannot wait for my MouseJunkies II (AKA MouseJunkies More!) to get here!

I read that last summer and brought it to disney with us in April... it was fun to tell the kids the little tid-bits of info and trivia as we went through each park... Granted, I did not rememeber everything, but I do rememeber sitting at the the beach with my husband and telling him all the Ah-hah moments, "secrets", behind the scene things, reasons, and new info as I read - chapter after chapter! Very fun & enlightening....

Just received in the mail yesterday Snodgrass Vacation by Dave Conifer and read the entire book last evening. Very funny, a really quick read, but could not put it down.

bump . What's everyone reading out there these days? I have considered rereading mouse junkies 1 & 2 before our March vacation but have been looking in my kindle for new mouse readings... Any suggestion??
