Disney "adult" ordering off kid menu

DS is 12 and at some of the restaurants he wants to order from the kids' menu. We are on the Deluxe Dining Plan and with them now enforcing which credits are for which meals, will he be able to order a kid meal using the adult credit?

Short answer is, we don't know. Some are saying they've had no problem and others have been told no because the system won't let them. In theory, he should be able to get an adult portion of a kid's meal with his adult credit, but it will be up to the discretion of each restaurant and whether they have found some kind of work around for applying the credit that way.

Thanks. He doesn't even really care if it's adult sized. For instance at Yak and Yeti he would prefer the grilled chicken off the kids menu. He's diabetic and the sauces on some of the entrees would cause him to skyrocket.

If things like sauces are an issue for him, ask if they can be left off or on the side. Disney is pretty good at customizing entrees within reason.

Is this "adult portion" thing DDP specific? Because our kids have never ordered anything BUT kids meals and they were 12 and14 on our last trip and were just served the kids portion at the kid's price. Our experience at restaurants everywhere is that no one ever gives us a hard time about our kids ordering off the kids menu and no one, anywhere, has ever offered a larger portion of a kids meal at a higher price. They are approaching 14 and 16 now and still order kids meals when we go out (they are autistic and have food issues). The DIS is the only place I've heard of this phenomenon of being charged an adult price for a larger portio n of a kids meal.

I believe it is DDP specific, although I don't know for sure...kinda like being able to sub a specialty drink.

In many cases, it would probably be cheaper to order 2 kids' meals rather than be charged an adult price for a larger portion when paying out of pocket.
