Disney’s Magic Band FAQ Link

So my son can't find his Magic Band from 2022; we can only find the one from 2014 (!) and 11 years later, it doesn't quite fit any more. I mean, he's a skinny guy but it is juuuuust too small. We will only be using the bands for basic tap stuff (rides, room, purchases) so I don't want to buy a new one. Any suggestions on how to extend the old band just an inch or two? Or a product I could get? We leave on 6/24 - we have searched everywhere but we can't find it.
In addition to the suggestions of keeping it somewhere other than his wrist and getting a KTTW card, he can also use his phone (iPhone or Android) to tap at entrance and LLs. Here’s how to set up:

Does Disney offer anything other than these $35 light-up bands?

My husband will not wear a band. He likes the puck in the keychain he had many years ago. We still have it, but it is about 8 years old....so it is not going to help for capturing photos, etc.

I know we can use the card, but it will be in his wallet.

They no longer sell the older versions of MagicBands. There are etsy shops that sell cases (key chains, etc.) for the MagicBand+ and most of the interactive features can be turned off. With interactive features turned off, the battery should stay charged for several days.

For park admission, he could add a Disney MagicMobile Pass to the wallet on his smart phone.

Thank you.

I will look on etsy. The app is a no-go for him. :)

Two part question:

Do the themed (more expensive) MB+ "do" anything cooler than the plain, solid color ones?

I lost my MB on RnRC last time I was there. It just POOF, flew away. I received it back in the mail at home about a month later. It is super scuffed and dirty. I will wear it as-is, but anyone wanna guess on if it would actually work or do we think it is damaged from its adventure?

Thank you!!

While all the MB+ bands have two or three color scheme of the led light that you can select (when when the band is connected to the phone/app), the themed bands often also have a unique color scheme for that band only.

For example, my Tron Opening band has an extra color scheme I can select compared to my plain blue.

Thanks - I am super frugal, and I am having a hard time paying 45 vs 35 for a new (and used to be free) band if the only difference is a color scheme. I was curious if it played music or interacted differently, etc. I appreciate the insight!!

The only thing you need battery for is linking ride photos, and linking your MDE account to Bluetooth on your smartphone will do the same. The tap functions for entering the parks, LL, and resort room door don’t use the MB battery and will work indefinitely. As above, there’s no way to test the battery, but happily, no need to.
What does the band use then, to have ticket info and room door and LLs put on your band?? That doesn't make sense to me!

When you tap Mickey to Mickey, your MB uses power from the tap point, not from the MB, to transmit a code to the Disney system. That code tells the Disney system that it’s your MB and that you want to enter a park, open the door, charge something to your resort account, whatever. Then the Disney system checks to see whether you have a ticket to the park, or you’re registered to that resort room, or you have charging privileges, etc., and it tells that tap point to let you do whatever it is you’re trying to do.

IOW, nothing is “on” your MB. Your MB simply transmits a code identifying you. For tap points it uses power from the tap point, but for long distance stuff like linking ride photos to your MDE account it needs its own battery power.

Wow, thank you SO much for this thorough, easy to understand answer!! I am tech challenged and admittedly I didn't understand the answer above saying RFID but was too embarrassed to ask again. I truly appreciate your response! :-)

You are quite welcome!

I've seen some cool looking themed MB+ on eBay that claim to be unopened. Is there a way to tell if they have been linked to an account or not?

You would need to try and link it to MDE to know that and to do that would require either the actual band or the 12 character code embossed on the back of it.

Okay, that is what I thought.. but just wanted to make sure! Thank you so much!

Some MB2.0 limited edition bands or special occasion bands did make different sounds at the Tap points, and even different color lights on the tap point before going green. For example, my MK45th Anniversary collection bands including Tiki Room Band, Dumbo, Haunted Mansion, my Pandora opening day band, All 3 of the Epcot 35th bands I have, 2019 Flower And Garden, all make unique sounds and light up the tap points with colors before going green, when tapping (example ->
or search Youtube for magicband effects to see/hear others)

So far none of the MB+ bands I've purchased have done this, including limited edition bands, like Epcot 40th, Tron Light Cycle (LE2100), 2022 Passholder Food & Wine, etc. ( but I only have 14 MB+ so far)

It would be neat if they had the Disney Cruise Line, or Disney Wish bands give the "ship's horn" sounds upon tapping, but they don't :(
