Disney’s Magic Band FAQ Link

If you have an old magicband linked to MDE and dont link the new magicband+ until after you purchase LLMulti pass and scheduled your LLs you still will be able to use the new magicband+ for the scheduled LLs correct?
I am overthinking but any magic band (old or+) will pick up the LL as long as ithe magic band is linked to your MDE account. Correct?

Any active MagicBand linked to your profile will work.

Are old Magic bands still available to purchase in advance of a trip or are they only offering MB+ now?

The magic bands from our last WDW trip five years ago are still active according to MDE. I have a few questions.

I’m confused as to whether or not we can use these for our upcoming trip, or do we only need to scan our ticket barcodes when we enter the parks?

Also, even though MDE says the magic bands are still active, do we need to do anything with them when we check in to our resort to ensure they will work?

And finally, in past trips, we used the magic bands for just about everything, including point of purchase for shopping and dining, room entry, etc. Do we still need them for these purposes? Or, does Mobile Magic now do all of this?

There have been so many changes since our last visit, I feel like I’m starting at square one, so to speak. Thanks in advance for your help!

The last time we went, we had magic bands but they are NOT the plus ones. Should we upgrade them?

Also, Do they still have magic bands for kids?

We have a number of MBs that old, and absolutely use them for so many things on our trip. They make it so easy to: enter the theme parks (if your tickets are linked in MDE), pay for meals and merchandise (make sure you remember your pin, which you'll need to enter to charge to the room), unlock our room door, if you drive it'll get you back into the resort through the security gate, if you drive they can scan the band to confirm you're a resort guest and don't have to pay for parking.... I'm sure there's more we do with the MB. I don't have direct experience with the Mobile Magic, as we have just continued to use the MBS - but I expect MM is used much the same way as MB.

With all the changes in the past 5 years, Magic Bands still work pretty much the same.... If they show as active in MDE, you should be fine. You can always verify at the front desk of your resort if you're not certain. The only thing with a 5 yo band - if you get off a ride that does ride photos, it might not pick up your band automatically to share the photos with you. If there's a ride photo we like, we just make sure we scan the photo with our MB after we exit the ride.

How old are the bands?

For tapping, the old bands will still work. But for auto linking ride photos/videos on rides like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Tron, Frozen, Pirates, etc. (No bank of monitors w/pictures at ride exit), if the bands are too old their internal battery will be dead and not work.

The old Magic Bands will work for tapping into the parks and at attractions, etc. - anything with a short-range tap-point. The only issue is that the long-range battery may have died, so you won't get those automatic ride photos through them. Other than that, they are good to go.

I agree with above - if the old MBs are more than 2-3 years old, they won’t link ride photos, but they’ll do everything else. And by allowing your MDE account to use the Bluetooth on your phone, you can get ride photos that way. So buying the new MB+ isn’t necessary.

As far as I know, they didn’t sell MBs specifically for kids, but the bands were adjustable by tearing off part of them. The new MB+ are the same - they can be made smaller by removing part of the band.

I agree with above - as long as they’re still Active in MDE, they’ll do everything they’ve always done except link ride photos that don’t have tap points at the end of the ride. But if you let MDE link to Bluetooth on your phone, it will link ride photos that you are in.

I know it's silly but I love it when MB lights up when you're on or exiting some rides.

So as long as I have my Magic band + linked to the Disney mobile app,
Somehow the band knows or links tickets, room, lightning lane etc?
I don’t need my phone pulled out ?

Think of MDE as an electronic chest that holds your tickets, room reservations, ADRs, etc. Your MB is an electronic key that unlocks the chest and pulls out whatever you need at the time. When you tap into a park, it pulls out your ticket, when you tap into a LL it pulls that out, etc. It’s an electronic connection just like when you tap, insert, or slide a credit card and the store’s computer finds out you have enough credit to pay for whatever you’re buying. That’s why you can have several MBs, just like you can have several keys to a chest.

Is not being able to link ride photos to older MBs an issue as long as someone else in our family has the newer MB+? My daughter has an older-style MB from a summer 2021 trip. The rest of us need new MBs. I'm assuming that since the ride photos will link with our newer MBs, it won't matter that they might not link with hers, right? We will be able to download the pics and share with her when we get home, won't we?

Yes, you’ll be able to share with her. She just needs to ride with someone who has a newer MB, so she’ll be in the photo with them!
