On arrival how many loads worth of dishwasher detergent do you get. I am trying to figure out whether I need to bring extra from home. Also the same with laundry detergent do I need to bring my own?

There are usually 3 or so packets of dishwasher detergent and a one-load box of Tide. You should get more dishwasher packets on T&T day. I don't know if you get another box of Tide however.

ETA: There may have been 4 packets of dishwasher detergent. That would make more sense since the room is serviced (either T&T or full cleaning) every 4 days. That would give you one packet of dishwasher detergent per day.

At OKW we have always gotten a small box of Cascade. All the others, we have gotten the single pouch of Cascade.

I also have never had more than one single use package of dishwasher detergent.

Interesting! When we've been in a villa that got packets rather than a box of Cascade, we've never had less than 3 packets. That was at VWL and BWV. I can't remember what brand they were. They weren't Cascade.

Sounds like it can vary from one guest to another so I guess I'll just through some dishwasher detergent in my case.

Ok not wanting to sound thick but...
Here in the UK we use dishwasher tablets that you just put in the drawer along with rinse aid and salt I am assuming that this is the same in the US? Also with laundry we have all in one tablets that you just pop in the drawer or put in a net bag and stick in the drum with the wash again is this the same in the US.

We have the dishwasher tablets available but I've only seen the powder at the DVC resorts. You put about 2 oz of the powder into a special holder in the washer door. Rinse aid is optional (not provided that I've seen) don't know about the salt.:confused3

There are some laundry tablets available (couldn't tell you where to buy them) but most folks I know use either a liquid or powder detergent.

Typicaly you get 3 or 4 single use packets. However, you dont need to have your own..... just asking housekeeping and they will gladly give you more for nothing excpet a please, smile and thank you!

:groom:

Don't pack dishwasher soap. You can get as much as you need for free.
Regarding laundry: Are you in a studio (and thus using shared laundry) or in a 1 bedroom or more with stackables in the unit? I ask because at BWV and BCV (not sure about AKV) the shared facilities have the new HE appliances and you should NOT use the tablets. If you have stackable regular appliances in your unit then the tablets should be fine.

We've always asked for and gotten extra dishwasher packets. No problem, no charge. We have to supply our laundry detergent.

We agree. We have never had trouble getting extras just by asking.

In fact if you ever need extra dishes or pots and pans, they will get them for you too!

OMG, you sound like me when I moved to the UK from California. Even the simplest of things were so different. The first thing I did in our new apartment was read the washing machine manual!

:rotfl2: I couldn't believe I had to ask this either :rotfl:

Thanks so much for all your help everyone. I guess to summarise I don't need to bother taking dishwasher detergent with us. However I may need to take some laundry stuff although I don;t plan on doing much :laundy:

Just to clarify we are staying at AKV in a 2 bed so have the laundry facilities in our villa so from what I've read I'm guessing the washing powder tablets will be ok, please correct me if I'm wrong. Who'd have thought that washing dishes and washing laundry could be so different in the UK and the US :confused3

Soap is provided for dishes and clothes. You can get more for free by asking a Mousekeeper or you can buy extra at the resort store. No salt required. :laundy:

I didn't bring any from home. After I used the two packs in the room, I called housekeeping and told them I had no more, so they just sent up a couple of packs which held me over til the end of the week.
