sunlver--- I'm having the same issue with Maddie when we go back to Florida to go to the beach in July. My entire family is going (when we're in WDW, my parents are watching her). Since all of us will be a the beach, I don't know what I'm going to do. I have a friend that will watch her... if he's in town... and he doesn't yet know if he's going to be in town or not. I can't board her. She'll probably die. Literally, she wouldn't know what to do with herself- she's so human its scary. Even when she gets groomed, they don't put her in a kennel- they put her in one of the luxury suites, bed, tv, and all... And they don't charge me extra... They are so nice!

But, I'm in the same boat as you--- gotta think of something!

Funny how we worry so much about our dogs. My dogs have NEVER been boarded, and I wouldnt do it. I couldnt image my dogs in a cage all day long. I dont care how big the cage area is, it is still a cage. It makes me sad just thinking about it
Last year we had to separate the dogs because my golden retriever just had acl surgery on her back knee. She was 3 1/2 weeks past surgery when we went on a cruise. She had to be on limited activity for 3 months. I couldnt risk her wanting to play with my other dog, so I sent her to my friends house. That house wouldnt have worked for both dogs as they dont have a fenced yard. My golden doesnt need a fence shes pretty good, my lab well she needs to be enclosed.
My yellow lab is going to be the death of me, I swear she is...I mean I have to find somebody with a big fence. I dont know if she would jump or not, she has when she first got adopted by us. We quickly put up a privacy fence for her.She is very capable of jumping. She leaps over every baby gate we have in this house.

So funny-- We had a golden and a lab. The golden was the best dog ever. She was amazing... I love them.

The lab was a nutcase. We actually had to give her away to another family who could play with her more, let her roam more, etc. The one acre fenced back yard wasn't enough for this crazy thing.

I also do petsitting as well. I work with a petsitting business in my area. I also have my own customers outside the business. I like my own customers better, I get paid more money
I watch the dogs in my own house. So people who go on vacation, love to bring their dogs over to me. I have customers who plan their vacations around mine, so they never have to board their dogs. My customers like the fact that I am a sahm have my own dogs, and kids, so their dog is always with a family.
How does your pet sitting business work?

Exactly the same as you but I stopped working for a company a few years ago & went on my own. I have my regular logs that I visit while their parents are at work and I also board dogs in my home (one at a time). I also visit alot of kitties in their homes. I agree the dogs love going on vacation to the Johnson house. It's great for my kids too. They always have someone new to play with. I also have a couple of temp employees for the summer and when I need to take time off.

How cool that you do the same thing as me SO you only board one dog at a time at your house? Would you believe I had 9 dogs here over Easter weekend Ok in all fairness, 2 of the dogs I own, one is my foster dog, and 6 were customers...

Golden retrievers are my all time favorite dog We got "Qtip"(She was a Qtip for 2 yrs before we adopted her )from the local SPCA..that was 5 yrs ago. She is the best dog ever. Heres a dog story...sorry for you non dog lovers, this may bore you
When my black lab died, I knew I wanted another dog. Ive always like to have 2 dogs at a time. Anyways, I wanted to adopt from the local Golden retriever rescue group. I know in these rescue groups the dogs are living in foster homes. I figured that way Id have a better idea on the dogs personality that way. Anyways, these two people came out for a home visit. At this time, we hadnt even picked out a dog we liked. They like to do the home visits first. Anyways, we had never had a home visit. They talked to us, asked questions, looked around the house. The lady knew I do dog sitting, she knew I was a sahm etc..
She said they would get back to me. 2 days later she called me and said that I was not suited for another large dog WHAT... I have been dogsitting for over 10 yrs, I could of given this lady at least 10 references from customers who only board with me. She went onto say that I just had too much going on in my house, and that goldens like to chew, and I have a lot of toys etc... I was so OFFENDED... I couldnt believe they turned me down They want to get these dogs adopted yet I have the perfect set up here,my dogs get treated like royality but I was not good enough.
I found another all breeds rescue group, which is where I adopted my yellow lab mix from...Apparently they thought I was suited well enough for a dog...Since then I volunteer with them as well. I do phone work two days a week, and I also do foster dogs. It took me about 6 months of convincing to do the foster thing. We are on our 4th foster dog..

Well self, I bought a pair of pink capris, black capris with pink flamingos on the cuffs, melon shorts, pink sleeveless wrap shirt. Self, I also bought 9 pairs of stud earrings for Brookie so she can be color coordinated in Disney World with all her outfits. Oh yea self, I bought the boys some shorts and tank tops. The only one left out was poor Rob.

That's OK I'm use to Northern accents. My dad is from Maine, and my MIL is from NY.
