DISer owned homes

I know there is a policy against advertising on the DIS, but I know there are several regulars here that own / rent vacation homes. Is there a post or link or other way to find them?

DH and a co-worker have to go down for a conference. This co-worker happens to be our best friends, so we'd love to go down with the families. I find out tomorrow for sure if I can re-arrange my work schedule to go. (We already have one doc out of the January schedule in India on vacation so it's taking some finagling.) We want to stay in a pool home for the first time, but don't have the time to do the research for a reputable place. Plus I'd LOVE to fill a hole in the schedule of a DISer who would otherwise not have income for that week. I've gotten so much good information from here that I'd like to direct my business to this community.

I guess it would be hard to separate out the legitimately "individual owner" DIS'ers with one house to rent out once in a while vs. the big management companies, or rental agencies. VRBO used to be good to tell one from the other, but no more.

We have a friend we rent from once in a while. I wanted a bigger place with a hot tub last year, and went with somewhere off VRBO... the management company was the pits (sorry I can't remember their name!), the house had a bunch of broken stuff, the game room was an unairconditioned hell of an unfinished garage that was unusable, the pool heat kept going off due to a timer that would reset with every power surge...

I swore never again. I only want to rent from someone who USES their ONE home, regularly. No more investors and big companies.

We're looking for a place for next Thanksgiving now.

The DIS doesn't really like homeowners all that much, as they compete with their sponsors and such. If they were smart, they would embrace the homeowners like the DIBB has and allow them to legitimately advertise on the DIS and become sponsors like the DIBB does, where homeowners can pay to legitimately advertise on a sub-forum, only after being paid, vetted, and such. Then everyone would win and benefit.

the disboard was created when Pete was thinking about buying DVC in 1993. don't know when the rental was created but when I joined the first (might have been second) in 1996 (might have been 97). it was even then a very good source for renting or trading DVC points.

Correct, it's a British run or oriented Disney forums site, very similar in nature.

I think that it is ok if you ask other DISer's for homes they have stayed in themselves. Maybe you could ask for this with the added distinction of homes owned by DISer's. Such as "Please reply if you have rented a home owned by someone on the DISBOARD". Maybe with pm's instead of posted on the site? Hope that helps! (I too think it would be a great resource (the list you mentioned) as I would like to be able to refer clients to my DIS Board owners.

I have noticed that there's no censoring here on people reporting out on things they've rented.

We actually just sent off a deposit for a home we've stayed in before, very reasonable price. I don't think the owner posts here, we knew him from another forum, but it's www.elegantfloridavilla.com.

He is an owner from the UK. I did notice, when looking at the Dibb, at their UK rental villas forum, that many of the UK home owners don't jack up the rates for Thanksgiving, in fact they charge the lowest prices of the year! That helped our budget a lot, since we're kind of stuck now traveling when Miles is out of school.
