Question for you ladies. What would you do if you were me?
Here's the situation...
So, yesterday before my surgery they did a needle localization. Basically I had to sit in a chair while they did mammograms to make sure they knew the right spot. Then they inserted a needle, did another mammo to make sure it was exactly where it was supposed to be. Then they put a wire in the needle, another mammo, then removed the wire and did yet another one.
Anyway, so when they were all done I was sitting in the chair (that was up very high and my feet couldn't reach the floor) by the mammo machine facing sort of sideways when the Dr left. When he did, he opened the door and headed out through another little room and then into the hallway. As he walked out I turned my head slightly to watch him since he was opening the door and I was sitting there with one side of my chest fully exposed with a wire sticking out of it.So, as he walks out and through the other room sure enough, there were two men standing outside the little room, leaning against the wall just watching me. It was like they were there hoping for a peek. I mean it's obviously the mammo room! Why would they decide to stop and chat THERE facing the door.
I didn't say anything right then but then one of the nurses went to leave. When she did I asked her to please not open the door all the way because when the Dr left there were two men out there looking at me. The nurse kind of gasped and went out a bit more discreetly. Then the other nurse told me that they constantly have to chase the men away because they're always standing around out there. Now I find that disturbing.
To be honest, I feel kind of violated. I mean, there I was feeling scared awaiting surgery, uncomfortable from just being poked, prodded and squished. I had a wire sticking out of my chest. And some guys were ogling me!I mean they literally just stood there staring at me for like 10 seconds and I had nothing to cover up with! I also couldn't move my chair because it was raised up and I couldn't touch the floor.
It's been bothering me. Here's where you guys come in....should I contact the hospital to complain?? My friend told me it violates the whole HIPAA thing. What do you think?

(I feel so stupid and embarrassed at relaying this story. I've tried to forget it but it's really bothering me.)
That is just awful!!! I would ABSOLUTELY contact the hospital to complain! Chances are, the hospital has a person who is specifically designated to handle HIPAA issues. They need to know that is happening, and need to do something about it, especially since the nurse knows its a common occurance.
Were these men from the public, or do you think they were employees of the hospital?
Yes, absolutely say something though!
