Question for you ladies. What would you do if you were me?

Here's the situation...

So, yesterday before my surgery they did a needle localization. Basically I had to sit in a chair while they did mammograms to make sure they knew the right spot. Then they inserted a needle, did another mammo to make sure it was exactly where it was supposed to be. Then they put a wire in the needle, another mammo, then removed the wire and did yet another one.

Anyway, so when they were all done I was sitting in the chair (that was up very high and my feet couldn't reach the floor) by the mammo machine facing sort of sideways when the Dr left. When he did, he opened the door and headed out through another little room and then into the hallway. As he walked out I turned my head slightly to watch him since he was opening the door and I was sitting there with one side of my chest fully exposed with a wire sticking out of it. :scared1: So, as he walks out and through the other room sure enough, there were two men standing outside the little room, leaning against the wall just watching me. It was like they were there hoping for a peek. I mean it's obviously the mammo room! Why would they decide to stop and chat THERE facing the door.

I didn't say anything right then but then one of the nurses went to leave. When she did I asked her to please not open the door all the way because when the Dr left there were two men out there looking at me. The nurse kind of gasped and went out a bit more discreetly. Then the other nurse told me that they constantly have to chase the men away because they're always standing around out there. Now I find that disturbing.

To be honest, I feel kind of violated. I mean, there I was feeling scared awaiting surgery, uncomfortable from just being poked, prodded and squished. I had a wire sticking out of my chest. And some guys were ogling me! :sad2: I mean they literally just stood there staring at me for like 10 seconds and I had nothing to cover up with! I also couldn't move my chair because it was raised up and I couldn't touch the floor.

It's been bothering me. Here's where you guys come in....should I contact the hospital to complain?? My friend told me it violates the whole HIPAA thing. What do you think?

Shelby

(I feel so stupid and embarrassed at relaying this story. I've tried to forget it but it's really bothering me.)

That is just awful!!! I would ABSOLUTELY contact the hospital to complain! Chances are, the hospital has a person who is specifically designated to handle HIPAA issues. They need to know that is happening, and need to do something about it, especially since the nurse knows its a common occurance.

Were these men from the public, or do you think they were employees of the hospital?

Yes, absolutely say something though!

I would complain to the hospital with out a doubt.

I am sorry to hear that happened, on top of everything else.

They were hospital employees.

Shelby:sad2:

Absolutely I'd complain. Them being employees makes the whole situation even worse, IMO. They know what the that room is for. It's not like it was 2 guys that just happened to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time.

I know. I feel totally mortified.

Shelby

Shelby, if I were you, I would most definitely file a complaint. I am so sorry for your experience. At least by filing a complaint, you can help to prevent another woman from having the same thing happen. More hugs:grouphug:

Thanks guys. I didn't want to mention it because I just felt so embarrassed. I will be dealing with this tomorrow.

My husband has some connections at the hospital, we're going to find out exactly who I need to speak with about this.

Definitely make a complaint... how awful! Would they want someone staring at them when they were being checked out?? ICK! And maybe they should consider putting curtains up at the door so that when they do have to go in/out people will see a curtain, never the patient.

good morning girls, I am glad that all things turned out well for you Shelby and for your mom mantysk8coach! :grouphug:

But Shelby, omg girl you need to call there until someone listens, thats horrible! and the fact that the nurse says there always chasing guys away from there.... WHAT  ... that would lead me to believe its happened before and will happen again.:sad2:

Call, call and call until you get some resolve and please let us know whats going on with it~ :grouphug:

Thanks guys. I called the hospital this morning and left a message for their Patient Relations person. It's a man. :scared: Can't wait to relay my story to him. :headache: But I will talk to him when he calls me back and tell him what happened.

I'll keep you posted.

Shelby

I know it's not the next line but one of my absolute FAVORITE lines is "It's snowin outside but we ho-ho-hoin'".

I still have my old "Merry Merry Christmas" cassette tape but found the CD at our local WalMart a few weeks ago!

Glad everyone is doing better. (I need to do better at keeping up with this thread!)

That's my favorite line too! I always loved Danny's part. I still have the cassette, I found it yesterday along with Step By Step, the Valentine Girl single, and their first album. I've been whistling Angel ever since.

Shelby, that's terrible. Especially since they're EMPLOYEES! It's a hospital, not some kind of a peep show. And I can't believe they've had to "chase men away." Something needs to be done about it. I would definitely make a complaint.

The fact that these men were employees makes it even more important for you to report the incident. Surely they have some code of ethics or personnel standards under which this behavior would violate. Not to mention HIPAA. Good luck and keep us posted. ((HUGS)):grouphug:

Happy Friday, ladies! Hope that you have a great weekend! Anyone have exciting plans?

Hi, Heather and everyone else! My plan is to get the kids in bed and then tuck into my own bed with a mug of hot chocolate and a movie. I have The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. I'm just beat.

As you can see my diet has gone out the window. But just for now, I'm giving myself a couple days off while I recuperate after my surgery. Then I need to get right back on track because I'm feeling so FAT!!!

So tonight it's snuggle up with a movie and tomorrow I will be going to my son, Noah's hockey game. Nothing much going on.

What does everyone else have planned?

Shelby

Tonight I have been putting a boat load of orders in from a TS fundraiser I did, which of course is a good thing but my eyes are crossing :surfweb: so I am taking a break!

tomorrow its off to shop one more time before I go in for my surgery, gotta hit Sam's Club and make sure everything is stocked up, cause I dont know about any of you but when my hubby goes to the grocery store....he buys chips, candy, pizza :sad2: so i want to make sure we have food-food not just "goodies":rolleyes1

Tonight I am not doing alot... I just ordered Merry Merry Christmas, Step by Step and Hangin Tough on cd from Target (all for $22! including shipping). I have the cassettes, not the cd's. I have the greatest hits cd, but it's just not the same as having the whole thing.
Tomorrow is more shopping. I have no clue what to get dd this year. Last year she had a really detailed list. This year- nothing! (and she's 5)
Going to the mall will make the weekend exciting, lol.

I'm unwillingly coming back to reality after a week at WDW. argh!
Grocery stores, picking up dogs from boarding, finishing up Christmas shopping ... every day life.
A good thing did come out of this trip. My husband is talking of a "possible" spring trip on our new DVC membership.

Hi Angey :goodvibes nice to see ya back! hope you had a great time!:thumbsup2

well girls its off to the malls for the day for me, have a good day everyone!

Welcome back, angey!

Have fun at the mall, danalee!

I'm going to start getting ready for Noah's hockey game. It's going to be COLD out there. Only about 30 degrees and we'll be standing around for an hour and a half. Brrrrr!

I'm off to shower!! Chat with you later!
