My question is in regards to the last day-our flight isn't until 6:00 on Ted(gotta love frequent flier tickets) so we're wondering what to do for the day on Sunday. First-I read something about checking your luggage with the airline at the port-Is this possible so we don't have to drag it with us?
Second-Are there taxis available if we wanted to go over to the space center or should I arrang a town car. I was thinking of using Magical Express to get us from the airport to wdw, towncar from wdw to the port, and towncar back to the airport. Third-any other suggestions for that day?

Thanks-I love knowing there are so many other disney crazy people out there! :earboy2:

You can check your bags at the port - IF you are flying a participating airline. I don't know if Ted participates (Ted doesn't, its parent airline might and that might be good enough- but I would call and check). I'd be really tempted with that schedule to bite the bullet and rent a car (and we are NOT car people) - that way you can put your luggage in the trunk and not have to worry about it....and you can put your WDW luggage in the trunk and just take your cruise luggage on the ship

Ted is part of UniTED airlines.....like Song is part of Delta Airlines.

You also must have DCL transfers purchased in order to use the port checkin for the airlines.

We always find the best option for us is to rent a car for the day...the cost is much cheaper than a taxi, towncard or DCL transportation. We usually do not fly out until at least 7 PM after our cruises so having a car is great!!! We pick it up near the port (either Avis or Budget). Both are just a few miles from the port (with complimentary transportation to and from port) and then we drop off the car at the airport.

I thought DCL transfers might be required to check bags at port but wasn't sure. If you rent a car at the port is there an extra charge to return it to the airport? What size car would you recommend for five people plus luggage? :earboy2:

I am traveling with three kids and myself. Having said that, we opted for the towncar. Tiffany town car(best rate for what I am doing... and being obsessive, I checked EVERYBODY)is picking us up at the airport on Friady nite and taking us to the Raddison at the port. Then we take their van to the ship. When we disembark, tiffany(same driver) will pick us up and take us to the transportaion center at WDW where they have luggage lockers for day visitors for a small fee. Then tiffany will return at the end of the day- we are doing MK for the day, and take us to the airport. Charge.. $250.00. Not having to worry about carrying luggage, and returning a rental car by myself with three kids before I catch a plane out.....priceless
Why end a wonderful cruise with stress?????? :wave2:

Okay 1st cruise post, quick decision for a 15 yr anniv (Sep 05)

I have been doing alot of research (with the help of the Disboards and other websites) and found that you can rent a car at the the airport and then at Cape Canaveral. I made reservations with Budget for an economy car (seats 5) (only 2 going) for $22.99 from the airport and same class car from Cape Canaveral for $36.99.

Also looked at Avis and Hertz both way more expensive than Budget.

The return is more expensive, why? Probably because it is on a Sunday and they figure if you rented to get there, then you'll have to rent to get back and it is still cheaper than using Disney transfers for 2 people.

Price breakdown:

2 car rentals (taxes and all) (2 people) $70.00

2 Disney transfers $118.00

Great bargin for those who have many in their party.

Of course there is a lot of "labor" to renting a car and yes there are easier ways to get there, however this dis forum doesn't have a budget section and not everyone can or desires to go all out for vacations. My idea is to spend less on the little things and spend more on the important things, like my family and myslef. (That little bit of savings means more souvies!)

Plus as noted, this is spur of the moment and we are taking a WDW vacation in Dec 2005 for Christmas (entire family of 5 for 6 nights).

So why do they not just call it United?? Is there something different about Song or Ted>> :confused3

Can anyone tell me if Air Canada has a check in at the port, just found out we're coming home on them.

Quick question for anyone who may know...is this a new requirement? I've used the port check in feature a couple of times and I have never used DCL transfers. However, on our December 04 trip, we didn't use port check-in because we had a car service waiting for us.

Thanks!

We find that with our family of 5 it is easier to rent an SUV than a minivan, especially with all of our luggage. There is no extra charge to pick up a car at the Port location and drop off at MCO. We have paid an average of $40-50 for the day for the SUV/minivan.

It has been in effect for the last year or so....they have become very strict about it and now ask to see your transfer voucher to even get near the port check in area for airlines.

Song and Ted are both "lower fare" offshoots of their parent companies.

Air Canada is NOT currently available for check in at the port.

Thanks...means we need to consider the DCL transfer at least back to MCO for our November trip.
