After recently visiting Castaway Cay, I began to think about what it would be like with a hotel/resort on the island. Discuss about it. Exclusive to DVC members? Would the ship be the only way on/off? Would it create a lot of revenue? Let me know. Thanks.

5 mile boat ride from Abaco.

Very difficult and expensive to operate.

The ship provides all everything to the island when it docks, so considering things like water and electricity are not available on the island, I think it would be very expensive!

Would not like to see that happen at all!

My personal opinion is that the island should remain as is, expanding amenities
as the need to accommodate additional cruise line guests becomes necessary as was done with the coming of the Dream.

water, electricity, and very important - sewage disposal! big deals but i am sure has been thought about

Why? A large part of the charm of a private island for a cruise line is that it is only a moment in time, and not permanent. I would also be tremendously surprised if the island could sustain a scale of permanent development that would be cost-effective, or if DCL's lease of the island from the Bahamas government permitted it.

I don't remember the %, but the original sale agreement and the Bahamma goverment reqiures a big part of the land to remain in its wild state.

But....on a more positive note, would love to spend more than one short day at Castaway Cay. In fact my son was only 8 when he first asked me where we could hide on the island so the ship would leave without us!

I think it would cause CC to completely lose all of its charm. One of the things that makes it so special, IMO, is the fact that it is largely undeveloped. Plus, the insect situation on the island after dark is, reportedly, awful.

My vote is to keep the island in its semi natural state....obviously DCL has done tons of work to make it beautiful for us humans but it is still relatively "natural"...I would hate to see a hotel there.

The island has water and electricity when the ship is not there....there is a permanent crew of about 40-60 CM's that live on the island....they do report the insect problem at night is horrible.

How about a golf course? Of course I want to put golf courses everywhere! :thumbsup2

Cheers!

The logistics of a resort hotel would be difficult at best, if not completely cost prohibitive. Everything would have to be brought in by boat for construction, which is not exactly cost effective. A golf course is an even worse investment. There would be nowhere near enough usage to justify the design, construction, operations and maintenance costs.

As far as I know Disney only owns only 110 acres of the 1000 or so that the island is. Having tourists on the island for more than a few hours might become a real issue.

I for one would love a nice resort built on the island. The island is not in a natural state already. there are buildings all over, bars trams, and giant water slides in the middle of the ocean. A nice resort, could be built to fit right in. I dont know if it is economically feasible, but I would love it. If Disney could make a buck off it ,then they will more than likely do it. We will have to wait and see.:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

I would not want to stay on CC with the bugs they have there at night!
