Some of our family are doing the Dolphin swim. If I stand as close as they allow (for those not participating) will I be able to get decent pictures? I am wondering if we can get by without the photo package?

You might want to try posting your question on the Sea World/Discovery Cove board, it's much more likely to be seen by someone who has experience and can answer.

Yes, you should be able to get good pictures. My mom took pictures of us doing the dolphin swim. We were even in the farthest out group. She walked along the side on the rocks to get us. If they end up in one of the groups right where you enter the water it should be very easy.
