We booked Discovery Cove back in Jan. We also booked a cabana which included the elite photo package.

We had heard so many great stories but also a few not so great ones. When you are spending nearly $2,000 for one day you certainly want it to be perfect, and it was.

I can't tell you how impressed I am with this park. We checked in at 7:15 a.m. and we were checked in within minutes and was at breakfast by 7:30. Breakfast was great and there was something for everyone, Fruits, yogurts, meat, drinks etc. We were then taken to our cabana where our fridge was stocked with drinks and snacks. Our cabana lady came by and said alcoholic drinks start 9:30. When we came back our fridge was supplied nicely.

While we spent little time at our cabana we would do it again. It was great when it rained and it was a nice place to stop back to.

The swimming was so much fun. We loved every part but the fresh water pool. Not that it was bad but just not for us. This had the monkey's and the otters. But other then that is was just a very large pool which most family's will love.

Believe it or not my daughters enjoyed the birds as much as anything else. We spent quite a bit of time there and went back several times.

The lazy river was so nice and break from the cold water at the reef. It was fun to go around. Water shoes would help here but also knees may get scrapped. But we loved it!

The reef was amazing and we could have spent our whole day just there. Workers are in the water answering questions. It was so much fun. Now I have been snorkeling my whole life in Key West and was worried this place would be disappointing but let me tell you I was not and would love to do again very soon. The rays are so big you can't believe their size. There are so many fish to look at.

The dolphin swim was also amazing. We got a solid 1/2 an hour with them after a short video. We had two dolphins, Copper and Acai. We loved it so much. Well a lot of it is for picture taking we still enjoyed being able to kiss the dolphin, hug them and then swim with them. It was so much fun I about cried when I got in the water with them for the first time.

I highly recommend this place it is so worth every penny. Lunch was also very good, there were many options available. To be honest we were so full from the ongoing snacks we were not that hungry. We had pretzels and slushies and planters snack packs and chips etc. the list goes on. My kids were in heaven.

My only complaint would be that they should offer a two day package with your second day without the dolphin swim at a huge discount price. We could have spent another day easy. It all ended too quickly. We stayed right in the water until 5:30 when they made the annoucement to get out.

We then took showers and picked up our pictures and shopped. We walked out of the park at 7. I think we were the last ones!

Sounds like a wonderful day! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We are planning DC for next summer.

Great report! :thumbsup2 Sounds like you had a fantastic time. Makes me wish that we had DC booked again for this August  .

I second everything you said in your post. We went April 2012 so the otters weren't there yet but we too got the cabana and it was one of the best memories of our trip. The kids talked more about Discovery Cove then they did Disney! And I can't say enough about how wonderful having the cabana was. I think it just topped off an otherwise amazing day.

So glad you had a great time!!

I'm very happy for you. Thank you for sharing beautiful emotions.
Our family will discover DiscoveryCove on October 16

Thank you for sharing. We go on August 9 and the whole family is excited to go.

How much is the cabana?

Your best value is to rent a cabana as part of a package, found here:

http://discoverycove.com/Plan/PackageDetail.aspx?id=681

Prices are either $229 or $259, depending on which inclusions you choose.

Cabana rentals as a stand-alone are about $180 per day and don't get released until 3 weeks before your visit date, if there are any remaining at that time.

So, what all do you get with the cabana? What is in the refrigerator, I thought we couldn't bring in anything?

Your fridge gets stocked with whatever you want .... the options are endless (both alcoholic and non). Upon arrival, the drinks in the fridge are just a variety of non-alcoholic beverages but your attendant will switch them out for whatever your family prefers. Alcohol gets stocked later....I am thinking after 10 am or so? (can't remember exactly as we didn't have any)

Other inclusions are a DC sling pack, a photo frame or stuffed animal, a personalized buoy delivered to you during your dolphin swim (if no dolphin swim, it will be waiting for you in your cabana), plus either a discount on your photo package purchase or the photo package itself (comes with the Elite package).

Your cabana attendant will also bring you a basket of snacks to keep right in your cabana. Again, you can have anything that they offer in the park, you just have to let your attendant know what you want.

Do you tip your Cabana server? I don't want to appear rude by tipping.

I know the question wasn't directed towards me, but I thought I'd throw my 2¢ in... Every time we've had a cabana we've tipped. No one has ever seemed offended. :)

Was the photo package and CD worth the $200+?

There are two photo packages that include the portrait CD. One is about $220, and that also includes a DVD of your dolphin swim, a photo poster, and a DC photo album. The second package that includes the photo CD plus prints was $169 on our last visit, but that did not include the DVD, the poster, or the album.

The photos were excellent and well worth the money, IMHO. The in-water photographers capture pictures of your dolphin swim that other family members standing on the shore will never be able to get. The pictures were excellent quality (bright, crisp images) and the CD includes not only the dolphin swim photos, but all pictures taken anywhere in the park during the day (lazy river, Freshwater Oasis, aviary, etc.). On top of the CD, we received multiple 6 x 8 prints of our choosing, as well as several photo key chains of our favourite pose.

We're not big on DVD's, and knew we would probably never watch it beyond showing some family after we returned home from our trip, so we opted to skip it. The more cost effective package was a better choice for us, by YMMV :) .

Some of our favourites:

We ended up with about 45 photos on the CD by the end of the day. The dolphin swim photographers take pictures of each person posing individually with the dolphin, kissing the dolphin, and swimming with the dolphin, then will take group pics of your choosing (for our group of three, we got DH & I together, and DH & DS & I all together as a family).

I read tickets go with Sea world together.
but seaworld has also lots of fish and tanks,
so it is redundant to do it or worth it ?

Discovery Cove includes 14 days admission to both SeaWorld and Aquatica :thumbsup2 .

Discovery Cove is a completely different experience than SeaWorld. Not even remotely the same.

SeaWorld is a theme park, with a focus on marine life. The park features various rides and attractions which reflect that theme. There are thrill rides (two large coasters, Manta & Kraken), plus a range of other rides from the very mild kiddie attractions in Happy Harbour (with a kiddie coaster, sea carousel, etc.) to larger rides such as Journey to Atlantis (a water flume ride), Wild Arctic (a motion simulator), Turtle Trek (a 3D dome theater) and more. There are also a selection of wonderful animal shows that are wonderfully done and not to be missed, showcasing everything from killer whales to dolphins to sea lions, walruses and house pets. Tying it all together are animal feeding opportunities (dolphins, sting rays, etc.) and some amazing exhibits (sharks, flamingos, etc.) and aquariums. Wear a good pair of comfy shoes and be prepared to do lots of walking and exploring!

Discovery Cove, in contrast, will be a day of relaxation (in a busy way, if that makes sense). Is an all-inclusive tropical immersion where your food and activities are all covered by your admission price. There are sand beaches with lots of loungers, no crowds or lines, lots of places to kick back and relax or float the day away. The Grand Reef has stingrays and tropical fish, but that's really where the similarities between SW and DC end. You will be wet and swimming most of the day, enjoying the lazy river or Freshwater Oasis or the dolphin swim or snorkeling.

So my long answer to your short question is that its definitely not redundant to do both. I would wholeheartedly recommend it!

Yes, I agree, do both! They are very different experiences. Take advantage of the include admission to Sea World and Aquatica when getting the DC admission.

I was not impressed with the photo deal today. We did not see ANY photographers there except on entry (you get an included entry photo) and at the dolphin encounter. My boys and I got about 30-35 shots to view from that, but many were multiple shots of the same moment that appeared very similar. My husband had taken a lot of photos from the rocks beside us with our camera, so I bought only one of their shots and the video, and I'm unsure if that was really necessary. My husband thinks I'm a sucker as his shots were pretty good.
