Has anyone had a day at Discovery Cove? I am considering this but at $1100 for our family to go just wanting any opinions.

My DH and I wouldn't be doing the dolphin encounter but our 3 children would. What does everyone think??;)

We went on our first trip in 2005 with 3 children then 12, 9 and 5. With the miserable Aussie dollar at the time it was an $1800+ day. We had a wonderful time. Discovery Cove is beautiful. The snorkelling was great – so many fish and as someone who wears glasses, the opportunity to snorkel with the prescription goggles was pretty cool. Also particularly enjoyed the stingrays. Swimming with the dolphins was also great but for me once is enough. I don’t feel any burning desire to do it again.

Having said that, and even though we had a great day – it was just one of a series of wonderful days and no more special than any of our days at Disney or Universal. While I don’t regret spending the money, we had a another trip in 2007 and have another one coming up in December and we haven’t even contemplated going back to Discovery Cove. Ultimately I think it depends on your budget. If it is tight there are enough other special things to do that are more reasonably priced. If there is room in your budget – Go for it! You will definitely have a good time.

My sister and me are thinking about adding a day in Discovery Cove for our trip next year.

:thumbsup2 How ever if you are looking for something that your family could do that have interactions with dolphins and Sting rays, if you plan a day for your family at Sea World you can buy boxes of fish for the string rays, sharks and seals and i think with the conversion it worked out about $15 for the three of them and you got to hand feed the sting rays , throw fish to seals and throw in food for the sharks in the tank. You were also able to pat the sting rays as the went passed in the little pool they were in.

They also have a Dolphin feeding at Sea World, for i think roughly $7 and you got to pat them and hand feed them.

Thankyou both for your replies. We have decided not to go as $1100 for our family is a lot of shopping money:rotfl2:

We originally thought we would give IOA/Universal a miss this trip but it seems a few of us would like to go again so we will do this instead.

It looks beautiful though :lovestruc
